Job description

Job Overview

As a Senior Structures Estimator, you will analyze bid documents and prepare quantity and cost evaluations for structural steel and concrete scopes. You will also develop the execution plan and schedule during the pre-project phase.

District Overview

The Eastern Canada District handles projects including highways, bridges, mass transit, mine site development, hydroelectric powerhouses, wind-power plants, dams, and industrial projects. It serves the construction and mining industries in Eastern Canada.

Location

This position is based in our office in Oakville.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare cost estimates for major projects across Canada with the estimation team.
  • Review owner plans and specifications to understand project scope.
  • Assess quantities, labor, and equipment needs.
  • Conduct material surveys and evaluate costs for permanent materials.
  • Create tender proposals, coordinate with bidders, and analyze proposals both commercially and technically.
  • Develop construction plans to serve as the basis for estimates.
  • Participate in estimate coordination meetings and bid closing stages.
  • Coordinate with planning, procurement, and proposal teams.
  • Maintain professional relationships with clients, professionals, subcontractors, and suppliers.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant construction or project estimation experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Canadian construction methods.
  • Skills in reading plans and specifications.
  • Detail-oriented with strong first principles estimating skills.
  • Experience in self-performed concrete scope on heavy civil projects.
  • Effective prioritization, organization, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written).
  • Proficient in estimating software; knowledge of BlueBeam and InEight Estimate is a plus.
  • Learning aptitude for new software systems.
  • Experience on Kiewit-led projects and in structural steel or SOE is advantageous.

  • Work during normal hours, with overtime and weekends as necessary.
