Job Title: Sr. Specialist, Operations
Location: Prince George, BC - preferred
Length: 6 Month contract to start
Rotation: Mon-Fri 40hrs per week
Description:
Provide operational expertise and leadership to ensure that projects are safely, reliably, and efficiently designed and delivered in alignment with the client’s standards and Integrated Management System requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advise project teams on operational requirements from development through commissioning to ensure fit-for-purpose designs.
- Act as the primary operations liaison, representing operational interests across all project phases.
- Support construction execution to align with safety, environmental, and operational best practices.
- Ensure operational input is provided for training, procedures, asset maintenance, and management.
- Deliver on Operational Readiness Assurance (ORA) requirements per project timelines.
- Oversee commissioning and handover activities, ensuring scope completion and effective communication with stakeholders.
- Identify and coordinate operational resource needs; provide informal leadership to Operators and Technicians assigned to projects.
- Resolve gaps in scope, schedule, funding, or process between Projects and Operations.
- Lead resolution of post-startup deficiencies to ensure long-term operability.
- Identify and mitigate operational risks, including those with high business impact (> $1M cost avoidance).
Scope & Decision-Making:
- Holds delegated authority to make frontline operational decisions as the “asset owner” for project-related matters.
- Expected to proactively assess and mitigate safety, operational, and business risks.
Key Relationships:
- Daily engagement with internal project and operations teams, as well as external vendors and consultants.
Required Qualifications:
- 5–10 years of operations or maintenance experience in the natural gas industry.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a high-demand environment.
- In-depth experience with gas transportation systems (e.g., pipelines and compressors).
- Familiarity with gas industry standards, programs, and best practices.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with Westcoast Operations teams and familiarity with station equipment.
- Field-level leadership experience.
- Knowledge of processes such as Management of Change, Work Management, Operations Training, ORA, and Commissioning/Handover.
Working Conditions:
- Primarily office-based with up to 20% travel.
- Field visits to pipeline, measurement, and compressor stations required.
- Regular highway driving within British Columbia for site meetings and inspections.
