Job description

CREATIVITY IS OUR SUPERPOWER. It’s our heritage and it’s also our future. Because we don’t just make toys. We create innovative products and experiences that inspire fans, entertain audiences and develop children through play. Mattel is at its best when every member of our team feels respected, included, and heard—when everyone can show up as themselves and do their best work every day. We value and share an infinite range of ideas and voices that evolve and broaden our perspectives with a reach that extends into all our brands, partners, and suppliers.

The Team: The Canadian Commercial Sales team is responsible for driving growth, market share, and strategic partnerships across Mattel’s key retail customers. The team leads the development and execution of customer-focused strategies that deliver results across in-store and eCommerce channels. With a strong focus on collaboration, the team partners closely with cross-functional stakeholders to bring Mattel’s brands to life at retail. Walmart represents a critical pillar of the Canadian business, requiring dedicated focus, agility, and best-in‑class execution.

The Opportunity

The Sr. Manager, Sales – Walmart (Canada) will serve as the Team Lead for one of Mattel Canada’s most strategic and high‑profile retail partnerships. Reporting to the Head of Sales, this role is responsible for leading a high‑performing Walmart account team, driving both short‑term execution and long‑term strategic growth across the business. This leader will own the overall Walmart relationship, balancing flawless day‑to‑day execution and delivery of Annual Operating Plan (AOP) commitments with the development of forward‑looking strategies that strengthen Mattel’s position with one of our most important retail partners. The ideal candidate is highly strategic, collaborative, and insights‑driven, with a strong ability to leverage data, shopper trends, and category analytics to identify opportunities, influence decision‑making, and deliver sustainable growth. The Sr. Manager will play a critical role in advancing Joint Business Planning (JBP) initiatives and further enhancing Mattel’s Advanced Strategic Planning (ASP) partnership with Walmart by aligning Mattel’s strategic priorities with Walmart’s evolving business objectives. This role will also collaborate closely with Walmart U.S. sales teams and global peers to share best practices, unlock synergies, and help scale winning strategies across markets. This is a highly visible leadership opportunity for a commercially driven sales leader who thrives in a fast‑paced environment, can lead through complexity, and is passionate about building strategic retailer partnerships for the future. The role offers significant exposure across the organization and is viewed as a strong stepping stone toward future leadership opportunities within Mattel.

What Your Impact Will Be
  • Deliver sales, profit, market share, and inventory targets for the Walmart business while executing against Annual Operating Plan (AOP) objectives.
  • Own the day‑to‑day management of the Walmart account, including forecasting, assortment planning, pricing, promotional execution, and category strategy.
  • Lead customer negotiations and business reviews to drive sustainable growth and strengthen the overall partnership.
  • Develop and execute customer‑specific growth initiatives that align with both Mattel and Walmart strategic priorities.
  • Leverage data, shopper insights, category analytics, and market trends to identify incremental growth opportunities and drive fact‑based selling.
  • Accelerate omnichannel performance and support continued e‑commerce growth across Walmart.ca.
  • Manage customer P&L and trade investment to optimize return on investment and profitable growth.
  • Partner cross‑functionally with Brand Activation, Finance, Supply Chain, ORM, and Category teams to ensure strong alignment and flawless execution of business priorities.
  • Collaborate with Walmart U.S. counterparts and global sales peers to share best practices and scale successful initiatives.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a high‑performing account team while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous growth.
What We’re Looking For
  • 8–10+ years of sales experience with national accounts; Walmart experience strongly preferred
  • Proven track record of delivering growth through strategic account management
  • Strong financial and analytical skills, including forecasting and P&L management
  • Experience with joint business planning and omnichannel retail execution
  • Excellent relationship‑building and influencing skills
  • Demonstrated people leadership and coaching experience
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or related field
