Summary:
A well-established engineering firm is seeking a Senior Refrigeration Applications Engineer to join their team. This full-time role can be based out near Ontario CA. The ideal candidate will bring 7–10 years of experience in commercial and industrial refrigeration design and HVAC systems. You will lead technical solutions from concept through construction, focusing on energy efficiency, controls integration, and system layout for projects across the U.S.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and specify commercial and industrial refrigeration systems (CO, glycol, low-temp cascade, centralized rack)
Engineer HVAC and EMS control systems for compliance and efficiency
Collaborate with clients, contractors, architects, and internal teams to define project requirements
Create layouts, equipment schedules, submittal packages, and redline construction drawings
Provide field support and troubleshoot technical issues during construction and commissioning
Ensure compliance with ASHRAE, IIAR, and other relevant codes and standards
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of refrigeration technology and lead internal process improvements
Mentor junior engineers and participate in cross-functional coordination efforts
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
7–10 years of experience in HVAC and refrigeration system design, with at least 3 years in industrial refrigeration
Strong technical knowledge in thermodynamics, psychrometrics, and heat transfer
Familiarity with ammonia and CO systems, compressor and condenser technologies
Skilled in AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel, and project management tools
Excellent written and verbal communication
Ability to lead multiple projects and provide engineering mentorship
Qualifications:
P.E. license
Familiarity with MCCs, VFDs, PLCs, EMS integration, and control panel design
Additional Information:
Supervisory responsibilities include mentoring application engineers and technical staff
Travel: Limited, for job site visits and client meetings
Work Environment: Office-based with occasional job site exposure. Must follow OSHA safety protocols and wear PPE when required
