We are seeking an experienced R&D Technician for an established medical device client of ours in the Vancouver area. This position will commence as a 12 month contract opportunity and will play a critical role in executing development and verification testing for medical devices. You will work independently in designated lab areas, ensuring equipment is maintained, calibrated, and audit ready. This role requires hands‑on technical expertise, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to problem‑solving and lab operations.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain ownership of specific lab areas, ensuring cleanliness, organization, and audit readiness.
  • Enforce and model safe laboratory practices for all employees.
  • Continuously seek and implement improvements to lab efficiency and expand services offered.
  • Track and coordinate lab logistics.
  • Maintain lab inventory and proactively manage supply purchases, balancing engineering needs, business priorities, and budget constraints.
  • Oversee, coordinate, and/or perform maintenance and repairs for all lab equipment.
  • Act as asset owner for equipment calibration, ensuring timely submission and tracking.
  • Contribute to decisions on equipment acquisition, retirement, and calibration parameters.
  • Independently assemble simple test fixtures and contribute to fixture development.
  • Provide insights into fixture components and construction processes.
  • Execute fixture verification and validation (V&V) processes.
  • Perform development and verification testing with minimal supervision.
  • Follow protocols and instructions to conduct design verification and experimental testing with high attention to detail.
  • Accurately document and communicate test data to engineers.
  • Coordinate with off‑site labs as needed, with support from team members.
  • Consistently follow Good Documentation Practices (GDP) and communicate results clearly, with occasional follow‑up discussions.
Qualifications
  • Education and experience: Minimum: High School Diploma; Preferred: 2‑year Associate’s or Technical Degree in an engineering-related discipline; OR 3+ years of relevant technical experience in a regulated lab environment with increasing responsibility.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to interpret test protocols, technical manuals, and supplier agreements.
  • Skilled in troubleshooting and maintaining lab equipment.
  • Capable of managing engineering labs and operating hand/power tools and sensitive test equipment.
  • Fluent in English (written and verbal), especially in technical contexts.
  • Effective communicator via email, phone, and in‑person.
  • Service‑oriented team player with initiative and minimal supervision.
  • Strong collaboration skills across teams and locations.
  • Excellent organizational and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Adaptable to changing priorities and fast‑paced environments.
  • Self‑managed and motivated.
