Rimkus Consulting Group is seeking a Senior Building Science Specialist to lead complex building science projects across residential, commercial, and institutional facilities. You will work with architects, engineers, and PMs to integrate advanced building science principles from concept through to execution.

Ideal candidates bring 10+ years in consulting engineering, a Building Science-focused degree, and strong AutoCAD/Microsoft Office skills, with PMP considered an asset.

Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in engineering or engineering technology with Building Science focus.
  • PMP certification (or working towards) is an asset.
  • 10+ years of related experience in a consulting engineering environment.
  • Valid driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design, analysis, and implementation of building science projects.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and PMs to integrate building science into designs.
  • Perform on-site evaluations of existing buildings.
  • Analyze building condition assessments and implement corrective measures.
  • Stay updated with building science trends and code standards.

OVERVIEW:

In this position you will apply your technical knowledge to evaluate existing buildings and design solutions for the complex and unique problems of our clients. Projects will include a mix of residential, multi-family, and commercial projects, with an emphasis on repair and rehabilitation scopes of work, as well as adaptive reuse of older buildings, and enhancements to existing facilities to accommodate changes in use and implementation of equipment and machinery. You must be able to balance several projects simultaneously and be detail orientated. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential.

The Salary Range for this position is$99,900 - $149,900 and is dependent on education, experience, location and certifications/licensure.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead and oversee the design, analysis, and implementation of building sciences projects.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and project managers to integrate building science principles into the design process for various types of construction projects, such as residential, commercial, and institutional buildings.
  • Perform on-site evaluations and assessments of existing buildings to identify potential concerns.
  • Analyze and interpret building condition assessments to identify areas of concern and implement corrective measures.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in building science, green building technologies, and code standards.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff.
  • Prepare technical reports, feasibility studies, and work with the Business Development team to prepare proposals for building science projects.
  • Measuring of building dimensions and quantifying on site and from drawings.
  • Interpretation and hand drawing of in-situ construction details.
  • Client interfacing, as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS and ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge in areas related to building science such as thermodynamics, heat transfer, and psychometrics.
  • Understanding of building construction, including methods, materials, and systems is required.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, specifically in accuracy of calculations and completeness of data collection and notation.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.
  • Self-motivating and able to multi-task.
  • Ability to act with business integrity and professionalism.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION and CERTIFICATIONS:
  • Completion of a degree or diploma in engineering or engineering technology with a focus on Building Science.
  • Possession of a PMP certification (or working towards certification) is an asset.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of related experience in a consulting engineering environment managing building science or structural restoration projects and/or teams.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS, OVERTIME, and TRAVEL:

Physical Demands – Work is performed both in an office setting and at outside locations (i.e. industrial, construction and/or residential sites). The employee is frequently required to stand, walk on sloped and flat roofs, sit, climb ladders, bend, climb inside attics, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, hear, and drive a motor vehicle to client sites or job sites. Working at heights, including accessing buildings by ladders, swing stages, and mechanical lifts may be necessary depending on assigned discipline. The employee may lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Clear vision and depth perception are also necessary. The employee must be sharp, focused, and alert when conducting inspections, speaking, and interacting with clients, preparing drawings and written reports.

Overtime – There will be some occasions where overtime (or working after normal business hours) will be required to meet the demands of the position.

Travel Requirements –
