Job Description:

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently set up, monitor, and troubleshoot blow molding, injection molding, and extrusion machinery to ensure optimal production performance.
  • Work under minimal supervision with considerable latitude for independent judgment.
  • Assist supervisor in overseeing colleague performance and scheduling.
  • Ensure that policies, practices, and procedures are understood and followed.
  • Perform complex machine setup and start-up plastic extrusion, molding, or injection equipment to ensure steady production for all machines while minimizing interruptions.
  • Communicate machinery issues to maintenance.
  • Operate and monitor complex plastic molding and extrusion equipment, ensuring optimal performance during production.
  • Assist maintenance with minor repairs.
  • Customize process parameters based on product specifications and past experience.
  • Proactively adjust process settings to improve efficiency, quality, and reduce downtime.
  • Recommend process improvements and new techniques.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs to equipment, assist with repairs when needed.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose plastic molding, extrusion, finishing, and process-related issues.
  • Partner with team on root cause problem solving.
  • Monitor and optimize process parameters to ensure maximum efficiency and minimal waste.
  • Make suggestions to improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) of the plastics equipment such as cycle time improvement.
  • Maintain accurate production records, including equipment logs and process changes.
  • Prepare detailed reports on production performance, downtime causes, and maintenance history.
  • Complete quality checks using calipers, optical comparators, and other testing methods and devices to maintain compliance with company and industry standards.
  • Support all related quality control initiatives.
  • Work closely with the engineering and quality control teams to address any operational issues and improve production processes.
  • Make process adjustments to plastics equipment to ensure steady production for all machines while minimizing interruptions.
  • Provide feedback on mold design and assist tool and die makers to dial in each mold for optimal cycle time and quality.
  • Train and develop employees on new equipment, processes, etc.
  • Incorporate and maintain safety observances, including, but not limited to, use of all PPE by employees, ensure guards and safety features are in place and working daily; maintain and display good safety practices and habits daily.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Technical Certification or Associate Degree preferred.
  • 4-6 years of hands-on experience in blow molding or related plastic manufacturing processes.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with working knowledge of electrical systems, pneumatics, hydraulics, air compressors, chillers, and PLCs.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve machine and process issues independently.
  • In-depth understanding of plastic materials, molding processes, and manufacturing equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality assurance.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Effective communication and leadership skills; ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong adherence to safety protocols and regulatory compliance.
  • Working knowledge of UN-DOT regulations and testing requirements.

Compensation Range:

The pay range for this position is $23.99 - $40.82. Typically, a competitive wage for new hires will fall between $26.00 to $36.00. Offers for this position may vary based on market data and other factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and geographic location. The position may also be eligible for a short-term incentive.
