ASR Group / Redpath Sugar offers a 1-2 year program called the Canadian Centre of Excellence, designed to bring international professionals with experience in the sugar industry up to ASR standards.

A career as a Sr. Process Engineer with ASR Group will add new skills, both technical and managerial. The ideal candidate will have a qualification in chemical engineering and at least eight years of experience in a supervisory and/or technical role at a sugar refinery or factory. Successful candidates will receive support and mentorship from process team members, company leaders, and technical experts.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Understand and comply with ASR regulations related to Safety, Quality, Continuous Improvement, Environment, and unionized work environments.
  • Develop competence in ASR software functions: process control HMI, trend analysis, and statistical process control.
  • Utilize lab reports, daily shift reports, Continuous Improvement tools, SAP maintenance system, Kronos attendance system, and Visikum.
  • Familiarize with ASR services such as steam, power, compressed air supply, lake water cooling, condensate management, wastewater treatment, mud disposal, resin and carbon transfer.
  • Understand process items including salt and lime offloading, specials transfer, yellow sugar transfer, sugar supply to packaging, bulk and liquid sugar loading, molasses storage, Brix control, and loading.
  • Monitor plant performance focusing on energy, water, sucrose loss, productivity, costs, and product quality.
  • Report and recommend corrective actions when technical targets are not met.
  • Collaborate with departments such as Quality, Process, Maintenance, Engineering, and Packaging.
  • Prepare and update process flow diagrams, including material, energy, and utility balances, and assist in updating operational and emergency procedures manuals.
  • Assist in operator training for new projects or retraining.
  • Participate in safety, quality, and sustainability programs.
  • Shadow process superintendents or engineers as needed.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Sugar Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Minimum of 8 years’ sugar industry experience
  • Strong communication skills in English
  • Supervisory, technical, interpersonal, and leadership skills
  • Proven ability to lead process improvements
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities independently
