Who we're looking for :

Reporting to the Chief Compliance Officer, this position advises the business on regulatory compliance related to the Bank Act for all day-to-day implementations of new and/or changes to existing products, processes, and controls. This role contributes to a strong risk management culture through collaboration with first and third line functions to ensure regulatory risks are identified, mitigated, monitored, and reported on an ongoing basis.

What you'll do :

  • Provide advisory support via interpretation and advice on the application of regulations specific to the Bank Act (e.g., requirements under the Financial Consumer Protection Framework) to the applicable Business Units (BU).
  • Participate in complex projects/initiatives as the Compliance liaison to assist the BU in assessing regulatory risks. Review project documentation (business requirements, testing results, etc.) to assess if the proposed requirements/controls meet regulatory requirements.
  • Support in performing complex regulatory compliance gap analysis, liaising with Legal to interpret regulatory requirements and address gaps and issues.
  • Understand regulatory risk exposures and support development of action plans to mitigate risks.
  • Monitor industry and legislative developments and work with BUs to implement applicable changes and oversight controls.
  • Support the development of compliance training specific to the consumer provisions of the Bank Act.
  • Assist with submission of reportable compliance issues to the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC) as required.
  • Support FCAC regulator requests, audits, filings, and reporting.
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of applicable regulatory and internal risk management requirements.
  • Build awareness, knowledge, and skills, providing communication, tools, and support including presentations to promote a culture of compliance.
  • Build effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of BU strategies, products, services, stakeholders, and processes to identify and manage regulatory risks.
  • Work independently and handle non-routine situations.
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

What you bring :

  • 7+ years of experience in regulatory compliance management, advisory, and internal controls.
  • Deep financial services industry knowledge, especially in risk functions working with business.
  • Significant knowledge of regulatory requirements for federally regulated financial institutions.
  • Knowledge of Bank Act obligations and codes overseen by FCAC related to deposit, investment, and credit card products.
  • In-depth understanding of business processes (sales, complaints handling, governance, controls).
  • Highly developed analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work autonomously, driving engagement and ownership.
  • Excellent communication skills at all organizational levels, with experience in presenting for approval or review.
  • Degree in business, legal, or related discipline; MBA, CA, CIA, or similar qualifications are assets.
