About the Opportunity:

We are currently seeking a Legal Counsel with a strong interest in the retail industry and experience in commercial real estate to join our in-house legal department. Reporting to the Director, Legal Counsel, Loblaw Real Estate, you will provide legal support to various teams across Loblaw, Shoppers, and Lifemark on a wide array of real estate-related matters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of leasing documents, primarily for tenant matters, but also landlord-side in some instances

  • Work within a variety of other real estate areas, including purchase/sale transactions, planning/development, expropriations, construction, energy, environmental, and regulatory compliance

  • Support and manage due diligence projects, including title and lease reviews, to facilitate cross-functional projects and key business initiatives

  • Advise on complex redevelopment projects that impact store operations, ensuring alignment with legal, operational, and strategic goals

  • Develop creative legal strategies and documentation to support evolving business models

  • Conduct analysis and prepare legal opinions regarding the interpretation of agreements and applicable legislation

  • Advise business teams on landlord/tenant issues and assist with related correspondence and dispute resolution

  • Collaborate with other legal teams within Loblaw, including Litigation, Labour & Employment, Corporate, and Compliance

What You’ll Bring:

  • Member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario

  • 1–5 years of post-call experience from a law firm or in-house legal department, with experience in any of the following areas: commercial leasing and/or real estate transactions, construction, planning/development, environmental, or energy
