Job Title: Deputy Head of Credit Risk

Location: Richmond Hill Office (Hybrid 4 days/week)

Duration: Permanent Full-time

Job Summary: Our large banking client is looking for a Deputy Head of Credit Risk to oversee and manage credit risk for commercial loan approvals. The successful candidate will be responsible for hands-on work similar to that of a Credit Analyst and will manage a team of six resources. This role requires 10 years of experience within Canadian banks and proficiency in both English and Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese). Portfolio management experience is an asset.

Responsibilities:

  • Complete thorough, in-depth analysis of new credit requests, credit change requests, renewals, and annual reviews.
  • Perform customer credit rating reviews and report findings to senior management.
  • Finalize credit applications by undertaking detailed financial due diligence, credit analysis, financial modeling, risk rating and analysis and stress testing to control risks.
  • Ensure that all credit files are complete, identify any documentation deficiencies, and report to the credit administration team for timely resolution.
  • Provide technical advice or other assistance to managers as needed.
  • Review loan files to ensure compliance with the Bank’s lending policies and procedures.
  • Assist front officers on loan-related issues.
  • Complete requested reports for the Senior Management and Credit Committee on a timely basis.
  • Oversee and manage the credit risk assessment process, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of six credit analysts, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
  • Develop and implement credit risk strategies and policies to mitigate potential risks.
  • Monitor and report on the credit risk profile of the organization, providing insights and recommendations to senior management.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure a comprehensive approach to risk management.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in credit risk management.

Must Haves Requirements:

  • Minimum of 10 years of credit risk experience within Canadian banks.
  • Commercial credit experience, preferably in sectors such as real estate, mining and energy, transportation, wholesale or syndicated loan.
  • 5+ years experience in managing and leading a team, while also managing hands on work within the credit space.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to perform detailed credit analysis.
  • Proficiency in both English and Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese).
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.

Nice To Haves:

  • Experience in portfolio management is an asset.
  • CFA or CPA designation is preferred.
