Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Sr-Level Hardware Engineer to lead the design and development of embedded hardware in Satcom technology. This fully remote role requires significant experience, including a successful hardware development lifecycle, and the ability to collaborate across teams for an exciting long-term project until early 2028.

Job description

As a Sr-Level Hardware Engineer, you will lead the design, development, testing, and oversee the production of cutting-edge embedded hardware in the dynamic field of Satcom technology. Your role will involve analyzing requirements, researching solutions, and developing designs, providing architectural input and design tradeoffs, and conducting design reviews.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and oversee production of embedded hardware.
  • Analyze requirements, research solutions, and develop designs.
  • Provide input on architecture and design tradeoffs.
  • Conduct schematic reviews, including digital and RF components.
  • Perform layout review and provide feedback on system manufacturability.
  • Contribute to part selection market surveys, focusing on CPUs and networking devices.
  • Review selected parts for end-of-life analysis and cost versus performance.
  • Collaborate with FPGA and software teams to optimize performance and minimize cost.
  • Work with contract manufacturers to refine designs for manufacturing.
  • Perform additional tasks and duties as applicable to the role.
  • Minimum 10+ years of hardware engineering experience.
  • Proven contribution to full hardware development lifecycle.
  • Experience in developing 3+ hardware products successfully released to markets.
  • Experience working with vendors and contract manufacturers.
  • Experience with high-speed applications such as Satcom and networking equipment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Understanding of design considerations for EMI / EMC, RFI, and ESD.
  • Experience designing to industry standards.
  • Proficiency with the Altium toolkit.
  • Experience working on boards integrating FPGAs.
  • Must be eligible for Enhanced Reliability clearance.

Remote work is allowed with periodic travel to Ottawa for prototyping, testing, and meetings. You will be part of a team of six, collaborating in an exciting space program, with a long-term consulting engagement opportunity until early 2028.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $80.00 / hr.
