Job description

  • Assist with supervising the functions of an analytical testing department, including, but not limited to, the
  • generation and reporting of analytical data and the prioritizing of sample load in the department,
  • maintaining turn-around-time and test requirements required of the clients.
  • Within the scope of authority, the employee is responsible for the accuracy of analytical data and completeness of analytical testing reports developed in the department.
  • Providing support for testing and equipment maintenance (more details below).

Equipment Commissioning and Validation

  • In conjunction with the General Manager and Operations Manager, assesses Instrument particulars for suitability to application
  • In conjunction with the General Manager and Operations Manager, ensures that equipment pre-arrival requirements are met
  • Assists with installation, calibration, system performance evaluation and confirmation that equipment meets required performance specifications

Test Method Validation

  • Validation of the test method, including instrument particulars, to ensure conformance to normatively referenced test method standards and in-house performance and QC requirements.
  • Reception and maintenance of Certified Reference Materials, Reagents, Equipment related testing and instrument Consumables,
  • Determination of Reference and routine materials required for Test Method Validation
  • Designing and implementing an appropriate Test Method Validation process
  • Documenting the Test Method Validation and Equipment process to common accreditation standards
  • Preparing a robust, technically accurate and complete Test Method Validation report

General Laboratory Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining glassware by proper handling, including appropriate washing, drying, storage, usage and inspection.
  • Demonstrating and Applying a Working knowledge of Gas Chromatography, Mass Spectrometry, and Insulating Fluid (Liquid) Analysis as required.
  • Understanding principles of chemical analysis, analytical and physical chemistry.
  • Receiving incoming samples and properly inputting customer, sample and HV equipment information into laboratory database.
  • Assisting with sample preparations, materials handling, and traceability.
  • Running chemical tests on lab equipment as instructed by the General Manager.
  • Performing other lab functions as directed by the General Manager.

Required Experience and Qualifications:

  • Technical college diploma or a University degree and 5 years of experience in a related field.
  • Able to meet deadlines and simultaneously work on multiple projects as required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Able to problem solve. Attention to detail.
  • Strong computer and organizational skills.
  • Attention to internal and external customers’ needs.

Additional Information

Travel: Up to 5%

Physical Demands: Lifting a maximum of 50lbs on a daily. Position requires standing and using computer and/or phone for extended periods of time.
