Job summary

Insight Global is seeking a Senior Infrastructure Architect to own the on-premises infrastructure architecture for its customer product and next-generation platform, covering the full data centre stack from servers to storage, including Ceph and VMware virtualization. You will drive infrastructure as code and automated deployment while aligning with security, continuity and cost.

Qualifications

• 15+ years in systems engineering or IT infrastructure, including 8+ years architecting enterprise systems infrastructure.
• Hands-on data centre architecture across servers, networking, firewalls and storage.
• Experience designing and operating Ceph distributed storage in production.
• Experience with Dell hardware and VMware ESXi/vSphere.
• Experience in infrastructure-as-code: Terraform, Ansible, CI/CD.
• Knowledge of disaster recovery and high-availability designs.
• Hybrid or multi-cloud deployment experience (AWS/Azure).
• Strong communication to explain complex infra to customers and stakeholders.

Insight Global is hiring a Senior Infrastructure Architect to own the on-premises infrastructure architecture behind its customer's product and next-generation platform: the full data centre stack of enterprise servers, networking and storage, including Ceph distributed storage and VMware virtualization.

This role is reporting to the Director, Engineering and Architecture. The architect is responsible for designing infrastructure that meets customer performance, reliability, security and business continuity needs at a competitive cost. They will bridge the hardware and software teams, advise customer projects through deployment, and drive infrastructure as code and automated deployment with the development teams, keeping deployments compatible across on-premises and cloud environments.

Key responsibilities

Infrastructure architecture and designo Architect resilient on-premises infrastructure on commodity hardware: server configuration, networking, storage, virtualization and power.o Balance performance and redundancy against cost and supportability.o Make sure designs meet business continuity, disaster recovery, high availability and security requirements.o Review current systems for deficiencies, then recommend, plan and drive improvements.

1. Ceph storage architectureo Act as the subject matter expert for Ceph distributed storage: object (S3-compatible), block and file.o Advise on capacity planning, replication, recovery, data protection and performance tuning.

2. Virtualizationo Design and integrate Dell server and VMware (ESXi, vSphere) environments.

3. Hardware and software integrationo Act as the bridge between hardware and software teams, translating application requirements into infrastructure designs.o Advise on server sizing, storage capacity, network architecture and hardware compatibility, and keep deployments compatible across on-premises and cloud environments.o Work with development teams to implement infrastructure as code (Terraform, Ansible), CI/CD pipelines, test-driven development and automated deployment.

4. Troubleshootingo Work with developers, Systems Engineering and Tier 3 support to root-cause complex issues across hardware, storage, network and software layers.

5. Architectural leadership and collaborationo Work with the other architects to define and drive a unified product vision.o Collaborate with sales, product management, software development and operations.o Participate in Systems Engineering qualification of new hardware and software.o Work with external compliance consultants and hardware vendors.o Keep current on infrastructure technologies and mentor engineers.

6. Customer projectso Advise the Technical Lead on customer projects with complex design and integration needs.o Support customer design and integration workshops, documenting integration requirements and responsibilities.o Occasionally review pre-sales designs and give infrastructure input to RFP responses and SOWs.

7. Documentationo Produce and maintain architecture diagrams, design documents, configuration guidance and best practices.

Skills and Requirements

• 15+ years in systems engineering or IT infrastructure, including 8+ years architecting enterprise systems infrastructure.
• Hands-on data centre architecture experience across the full hardware suite: enterprise servers, networking, firewalls and storage platforms.
• Hands-on experience designing, deploying and operating Ceph distributed storage in production, covering object, block and file.
• Hands-on experience with Dell server hardware and VMware ESXi/vSphere virtualization.
• Experience working in an infrastructure-as-code environment: Terraform, Ansible, CI/CD pipelines, test-driven development and automated deployment.
• Strong knowledge of disaster recovery and high-availability design options.
• Knowledge of cloud infrastructure, to keep deployments compatible across on-premises and cloud environments.
• Proven record designing redundant, high-performance and secure on-premises infrastructure.
• Ability to translate software requirements into infrastructure design decisions.
• Strong troubleshooting skills across hardware, storage, network and software layers.
• Clear communicator who can explain complex infrastructure to customers and non-technical stakeholders.
• Red Ceph Storage or IBM Storage Ceph experience.
• Hybrid or multi-cloud deployment experience (e.g. AWS, Azure).
• Kubernetes or vSAN/NSX experience.
• Knowledge of S3-compatible and AWS object storage concepts.
• Experience managing 24x7 data centre operations.
• Familiarity with security and continuity standards such as NIST, ISO 27001 and ISO 22301.
• Customer-facing solution design experience, including occasional pre-sales or RFP work.
• Previous technical leadership role (e.g. team lead) and mentoring of engineers.
• Performance testing and quantitative technology evaluation.
• Telecom or lawful intercept industry experience.
• Bachelor's or graduate degree in computer science, engineering or IT, or equivalent experience.
