Job summary

Insight Global is seeking a Senior Infrastructure Architect to join our architecture team in Canada. The role focuses on designing and implementing resilient on-premises storage infrastructure using commodity server hardware, Ceph, and Dell virtualization technologies.

This is a contract-to-hire opportunity for a senior professional. You will bridge hardware and software teams, advise on sizing, networking, and configurations, and work with VMware ESXi in virtualized environments to deliver

Qualifications

• Significant experience in infrastructure architecture, infrastructure engineering, systems engineering, or enterprise storage solutions.
• Strong understanding of Ceph distributed storage, including architecture, configuration, deployment, and operations.
• Experience with enterprise storage technologies (object, block, file storage).
• Knowledge of server hardware, commodity configurations, networking and data centre infrastructure.
• Experience with Dell servers and infrastructure products, ideally with VMware virtualization.
• Understanding of hypervisor technologies, especially VMware ESXi and virtualized infrastructure.
• Ability to translate requirements into architecture and design decisions; strong troubleshooting and analysis.
• Excellent communication skills for collaboration with developers, engineers, architects, and customers.

We are seeking a Senior Infrastructure Architect to join the architecture team and support the design, development, and implementation of resilient, high-performance on-premises storage infrastructure. This individual will serve as a technical bridge between hardware and software teams, providing architectural guidance on how to configure, integrate, and optimize storage solutions using commodity server hardware, Ceph distributed storage, and Dell virtualization technologies.

The ideal candidate brings a strong understanding of both physical infrastructure and storage software, with hands-on experience designing and troubleshooting enterprise storage environments. They will collaborate with developers, hardware specialists, and software engineers to ensure infrastructure solutions are reliable, scalable, and aligned with customer requirements.

This is a contract-to-hire opportunity for a senior-level infrastructure professional who can translate architectural requirements into practical infrastructure designs and provide technical guidance throughout implementation.

Key Responsibilities

• Infrastructure Architecture: Design and guide the implementation of resilient, scalable on-premises storage solutions using commodity hardware, server configurations, networking, and power infrastructure.
• Ceph Storage Architecture: Provide technical expertise in Ceph distributed storage, including object storage (S3-compatible), block storage, and file storage solutions.
• Hardware & Software Integration: Act as the intermediary between hardware and software teams, ensuring infrastructure configurations support software requirements, performance objectives, and system reliability.
• Virtualization & Hypervisors: Support the design and integration of Dell and VMware virtualization environments, including VMware ESXi and associated hypervisor technologies.
• Technical Design & Configuration: Advise on server sizing, storage capacity, network architecture, hardware compatibility, and software configuration to optimize storage performance and resiliency.
• Troubleshooting & Debugging: Collaborate with developers and technical teams to investigate complex infrastructure and storage issues, identify root causes, and recommend solutions across hardware and software layers.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with architects, hardware specialists, software engineers, and developers to translate technical requirements into effective infrastructure designs.
• Customer Engagement: Participate in occasional customer discussions to explain architectural decisions, provide technical recommendations, and support the delivery of storage solutions.
• Technical Documentation: Develop and maintain architecture diagrams, design documentation, configuration guidance, and infrastructure best practices.

Required Qualifications

• Significant experience in infrastructure architecture, infrastructure engineering, systems engineering, or enterprise storage solutions.
• Strong understanding of Ceph distributed storage, including its architecture, configuration, deployment, and operational considerations.
• Experience with enterprise storage technologies, including object, block, and file storage.
• Knowledge of server hardware, commodity hardware configurations, networking, and data centre infrastructure.
• Experience with Dell server and infrastructure products, ideally within VMware virtualization environments.
• Understanding of hypervisor technologies, particularly VMware ESXi and virtualized infrastructure.
• Ability to bridge hardware and software domains, translating application and software requirements into infrastructure architecture and design decisions.
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills, with the ability to diagnose complex hardware, software, storage, and networking issues.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with developers, engineers, architects, and customers.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Red Hat Ceph Storage or related IBM-supported Ceph solutions.
• Knowledge of S3-compatible storage and AWS object storage concepts.
• Experience designing highly available, fault-tolerant, and resilient distributed storage systems.
• Familiarity with storage performance optimization, capacity planning, replication, recovery, and data protection.
• Experience supporting on-premises infrastructure deployments and customer-facing technical solutions.
• Knowledge of automation, infrastructure configuration, and deployment practices.
