Job description

The Role

Reporting to the Manager, FIU Intake Operations, this position plays a key role in ensuring regulatory AML / ATF compliance and fraud prevention across MCAP. The incumbent will be involved in all compliance aspects of the AML / ATF program, including reviewing unusual transactions, drafting suspicious transaction reports, conducting due diligence, onboarding processes, and monitoring high-risk clients. Following established policies and procedures, this role will conduct advanced analysis and monitoring activities to support MCAP’s regulatory obligations, contractual agreements, and focus on money laundering and fraud risks.

  • This role serves as the backup to the Manager, FIU Intake, and will learn, understand, and execute elements of that mandate.
  • The Sr. FIU Analyst contributes to the success of FIU Operations by ensuring the execution of goals, plans, initiatives, and programs aligned with business objectives.
  • Champion a customer-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage MCAP’s broader relationships and systems.
  • Provide support and backup responsibilities by training in aspects of the Manager, Intake Operations role.
  • Follow written procedures for transaction monitoring, conduct investigations on escalated unusual activity, and determine next steps.
  • Perform escalated reviews of potential sanctions cases.
  • Handle ad hoc investigations as assigned.
  • Oversee and approve transaction monitoring, compliance audits, and high-risk client reviews.
  • Investigate and resolve high-risk and complex cases, referring urgent cases to the Manager as needed.
  • Conduct in-depth reviews of cases related to Single Family, Commercial, and Construction clients, applying advanced research skills and knowledge of MCAP’s products and practices.
  • Maintain customer due diligence reports and manage KYC audit processes.
  • Prepare Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) as required.
  • Review PEP cases for management approval.
  • Maintain case records and documentation to ensure compliance with standards and regulations.
  • Contribute AML / Fraud content updates to the Policy Manual.
  • Support lines of business with insights on escalated files.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and participate in their implementation.
  • Maintain knowledge of AML / ATF / Sanctions regulations to guide business partners.
  • Participate in AML / ATF / Sanctions / Fraud initiatives.
  • Train and mentor other FIU Analysts as assigned.
  • Review client exit recommendations for accuracy and escalate as needed.
  • Respond promptly to requests from various units and risk functions.
  • Consider MCAP’s risk appetite and culture in daily activities and decisions.

What You Bring To The Team

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in residential mortgages, focusing on fraud, money laundering, and terrorist financing detection.
  • Knowledge of investigative techniques and financial criminal trends.
  • Understanding of FINTRAC AML / ATF regulations.
  • Deep knowledge of the mortgage industry and lifecycle.
  • Proficiency in risk management, fraud investigation, and judicial processes.
  • Advanced analytical skills, ability to review large data sets, and strong research skills.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of AML / ATF reporting practices for entities and providers.
  • Familiarity with Canadian and international regulations.
  • Knowledge of MCAP’s underwriting, servicing policies, and products.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, PowerApps, SQL, and SharePoint.
