The Role

This opportunity will play a key role within Finance. Reporting to the Finance Director, the Senior Financial Analyst is responsible for monthly and quarterly financial and management reporting, annual budgeting and ad-hoc analytics. Ensuring month-end close deliverables are completed accurately and on time, and generate insight that supports key management decisions.

The role is hands‑on and detail oriented. Strong organization and multi-tasking skills are a must, and the individual should be able to work with a high degree of independence and initiative under restrictive deadlines and shifting priorities. While the position has no direct reports, the Senior Financial Analyst is expected to review the work of junior analysts and act as a subject‑matter resource within the team.

The individual will be required to have strong interpersonal and communication skills, due to close work with business partners and the Finance leadership team. The ability to summarize large amounts of information into meaningful key messages, and to effectively gather, document and execute on reporting requirements in a timely manner, is paramount to the success of the role.

Financial Reporting & Month‑End Close
  • Support month‑end and quarter‑end close activities end to end, including preparation of journal entries, accruals, reclassifications, chargebacks and intercompany settlements.
  • Prepare monthly enterprise‑wide and business unit financial results, including analytics, commentary and ad‑hoc analysis as required.
  • Investigate and report monthly financial variances against budget, and prior periods, with clear and actionable commentary.
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and supporting working papers; identify, resolve and elevate aged or unusual reconciling items.
  • Assist in the preparation of quarterly consolidated Financial Statements and other board materials, including underlying working papers, and support legal entity stand‑alone reporting.
  • Ensure accuracy of data extraction and interpretation of data from the general ledger and various source systems.
  • Support accurate and timely submission of routine and ad‑hoc financial information or support to external stakeholders, such as regulatory bodies and external auditors.
Management Reporting & Business Partnering
  • Prepare tailored monthly and quarterly reporting packages for senior management, including PowerPoint decks, key metrics reports and charts that clearly communicate business results.
  • Analyze P&L and performance, provide insightful and relevant commentary to senior management on the results, summarizing large amounts of information into meaningful key messages.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with business partners across the lines of business, and act as a knowledge resource on their financial results and performance.
  • Proactively identify trends, risks and opportunities warranting further review and analysis; elevate issues and recommend corrective action on a timely basis.
Budgeting
  • Take a proactive role in the annual budgeting process, liaise with business partners and stakeholders to develop, validate and document assumptions.
Financial Analysis & Decision Support
  • Perform analysis of financial statement line items, business units and specific areas of focus, generating insights that support management decision making.
  • Complete ad‑hoc analyses, special projects and reports on behalf of Finance and business partners, and study and recommend opportunities for increasing revenue, cost control and savings.
Process Improvement & Automation
  • Work closely with the Finance directors to define, scope and implement enhancements to working practices, processes, financial models, financial analysis and reporting.
  • Proactively find ways to improve the technical accuracy, validation and organization of financial analysis.
  • Structure key processes and develop relevant background documentation with a view to enhancing efficiencies and managing risk.
  • Identify opportunities and operationalize changes to reduce redundancy within processes and reporting, automating and streamlining to reduce manual effort, time and risk of error.
Teamwork & Knowledge Sharing
  • Review the work of junior analysts, providing constructive feedback and coaching on technical, process and presentation matters.
  • Share knowledge and provide training and support to team members and business partners on reporting tools, systems and processes.
  • Take ownership of assigned deliverables, communicating progress, risks and issues to the Sr. Director, Finance promptly.
  • Foster a positive and productive work environment, encouraging open communication and collaboration among team members.
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, accountability and high‑quality work within Finance.
What You Bring To The Team
  • Minimum 4 years of progressive and relevant work experience in financial reporting, accounting and/or FP&A, preferably within a financial institution.
  • Solid knowledge of financial statements, management reporting and IFRS accounting principles and standards
  • Knowledge of mortgages, securitization, derivatives or other financial products would be an advantage
  • Experience preparing and reviewing month‑end journal entries, accruals and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Experience developing and compiling management reports and executive‑level presentation materials
  • Highly skilled in using MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, Copilot)
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Familiarity with ERP/general ledger and reporting systems; experience with reporting and automation tools (e.g., Power BI) is an asset
  • Ability to summarize large amounts of data into meaningful key messages for senior management
  • Ability to interpret and question data inputs to financial models and support alternative recommendations as necessary
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to recognize issues and take practical corrective action
  • High degree of attention to detail and a strong commitment to accuracy and control
  • Strong business acumen and an understanding of the drivers of business performance
  • Ability to manage multiple deliverables through to completion in a fast‑paced environment with restrictive deadlines
  • Excellent organizational and time‑management skills, with demonstrated adaptability when priorities change
  • Confident and effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present information and respond to questions from business partners and senior leaders
  • Proven ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with business partners and stakeholders
  • Demonstrates credibility, discretion and confidentiality when handling sensitive financial information
  • Self‑driven and motivated, with the ability to work with minimal supervision and within a team, and carries out duties with integrity and takes responsibility for actions
  • University degree in accounting, finance, business or a related discipline.
