Position Summary
A Sr. Field Technician requires a qualified, service-oriented individual to perform operation, maintenance, installation, and troubleshooting of Transformers and associated equipment. A qualified individual must be able to test, inspect, troubleshoot, operate transformer service equipment, and repair high voltage equipment. They must be able to manage small to large size projects with good supervisory and organizational skills. They must be self-directed and very committed to customer satisfaction. Excellent communication skills with clients, peers, and management are essential.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Perform troubleshooting, electrical/fluid testing, repairs, and fluid services of transformers, rectifiers, regulators, and high voltage components.
- Communicate effectively with clients, peers, and management for problem resolution and information transfer.
- Maintain strong client relationships, prepare project estimates, expand project scopes, and assist in negotiations.
- Inspect customer sites, identify problems, and report to Sales and Project Management.
- Ensure all work complies with regulatory laws.
- Handle transformer and switchgear painting, including component cleaning, gasket replacement, fluid handling, and processing.
- Select, re-condition, and weld components as directed.
- Ensure transformer quality, complete test reports, and verify all safety and identification markings.
- Test transformers as assigned, prepare reports promptly, and perform service and repair at customer locations.
- Possess or obtain forklift license.
- Work weekly and/or weekend overtime; schedule holiday work as needed.
- Follow all safety protocols, including PPE use and safe operation of equipment.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Collaborate with team members to complete assignments effectively.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
- High School diploma/GED or equivalent with 5 years of related experience.
- Knowledge of National Electrical Code, NETA, OSHA, IEEE, NFPA standards.
- Experience with high voltage equipment up to 230 kV.
- Experience with MCCs, breakers, relay testing, oil testing, infrared scanning, switchgear start-up up to 500kV, or military training in related fields.
- Ability to complete projects on budget and on schedule.
- Ability to produce on-site reports.
- Valid driver’s license; Class A CDL preferred.
