We are currently seeking a Senior Ocean Export Agent to join our dynamic Montreal team. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and thrives in a fast-paced environment. You will be responsible for handling ocean export shipments from start to finish, ensuring compliance with international regulations, and delivering exceptional customer service. Attention to detail and willingness to learn are essential qualities. Candidates must be accommodating to different cultures and willing to work with people that may possess limited English or French skills.

Required Skills and Competencies:

  • Minimum of 3+ years of Ocean Export Experience
  • Experience handling complex cargo - Dangerous Goods, ITAR, Project Cargo
  • Dangerous Goods training Certification - IATA and IMDG strongly preferred
  • Experience with CargoWise preferred
  • Ability to promote and ensure a strong team environment
  • Desire to continually learn and expand international knowledge through trade magazines, programs, training, etc.
  • Ability to keep up with fast-paced changes in the international logistics environment
  • Ability to effectively communicate knowledge to both experienced and beginner international clients
  • Strong computer skills, including typing 35+ words per minute and proficient use of Windows 7, MS Office, Mac OSx, CargoWise, etc.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Handling export files from start to finish, including quoting, booking, dispatching, preparing documents, issuing insurance certificates, tracking shipments, troubleshooting, and invoicing.
  • Coordinating freight daily with vendors/agents.
  • Participating in department and branch team meetings.
  • Monitoring and replying to emails in work mailboxes.
  • Ensuring shipment margins are met and vendor compliance with service standards.
  • Maintaining and fostering relationships with vendors and clients.
  • Responding promptly to requests from vendors and clients.

Additional Job Duties:

  • Monitor and manage shipments to ensure quality standards.
  • Learn CargoWise to ensure timely and accurate data entry.
  • Prepare and process shipments, ensuring proper maintenance of carnets, licenses, etc.
  • Coordinate with international and domestic agents, answer rate requests, and track cargo.
  • Maintain accurate notes and documentation throughout the shipment process.
  • Cross-train on import procedures to provide coverage when needed.
  • Provide technical support to account executives.
  • Develop and maintain vendor relationships.
  • Participate actively in team meetings and ensure compliance with standards and regulations.
  • Oversee and be accountable for Ocean & Air exports and client interactions.
  • Review and approve carrier contracts and ensure cost-effective routing.
  • Prepare documentation for DGR shipments and negotiate carrier rates.
  • Pre-alert shipments and prepare international documents such as legalized documents, chamber documents, letters of credit, etc.
  • Track cargo and update clients as necessary.

Compensations and Benefits

Compensation packages depend on individual skills, experience, and qualifications.

  • Salary: $50,000CAD-$75,000CAD annually, based on experience.
