The Opportunity

Are you an exploitation engineer with experience on conventional assets in the Alberta Deep Basin? Are you agile, strategic, and passionate about working with a diverse asset base? We are hiring a Sr. Exploitation Engineer to work with us out of our Calgary head office. If you have the above experience, we want to hear from you!

Vermilion is an active operator and you will be involved in all activities related to growing and maximizing the value of our Alberta Deep Basin assets. You will assist hands-on with various multi-disciplinary teams. You will be responsible for identifying, evaluating and executing on organic and inorganic growth opportunities that help strengthen our portfolio.

What you will do

  • Identify and develop exploitation opportunities and reservoir depletion strategies
  • Focus on increasing recovery factors through infill drilling, water flood optimization, and improved technology
  • Recommend / implement area development plans leading to appropriate capital spending
  • Collaborate with team members to deliver on yearly budgets
  • Be accountable for managing all aspects of the budget and long range plan for these assets
  • Maintain accurate company reserve bookings for assigned areas and provide technical justification to independent reserve evaluators
  • Monitor competitor and analog activity outside of existing land base and identify opportunities for consolidation, farm-ins, new land acquisition and new technology applications
  • Actively participate in our health, safety, and environmental program and implement company strategy within the corporate business plan
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to executive leadership regarding business opportunities

What you will bring

  • 10 years of engineering experience in the oil and gas industry, with strong exploitation and evaluation skills
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer with APEGA
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite of programs, Mosaic, GeoScout, and ProdView, with experience in data analytics tools (Excel, Power BI, and Spotfire), considered an asset
  • Experience with operations, production, drilling , completions, or water flood development is considered an asset
  • Detail oriented, logic based decision maker, with strong critical thinking and project management skills
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with the ability to multi-task, and manage priorities in a deadline driven environment
