Responsibilities

  • Develop annual sustain and maintenance plans and budgets aligned with strategies.
  • Create long-term asset sustainment plans (2–10 years) and rolling budgets.
  • Provide consultative input to ensure maintenance and capital issues are addressed.
  • Lead cross‑functional asset management initiatives and report outages.

We are seeking a self-disciplined individual with exceptional interpersonal skills. The chosen applicant will be required to join and begin their duties as soon as possible. This is a permanent, full-time position.

  • The candidate will be responsible for developing annual sustain and maintenance work plans and budgets that align with established strategies, standards, and investment plans, balancing priorities, collaborating with other Integrated Planning groups to evaluate alternatives and impacts, and assigning the work program to Program and Contract Management or Capital Infrastructure Project Delivery for execution.
  • The candidate will be responsible for developing a long-term (2 to 10 years) Asset Maintain/Sustain Investment Plan and rolling budget based on asset maintenance and sustainment strategies, current asset condition and health, and changes in performance expectations from stakeholders, regulators, and the asset owner.
  • The candidate must implement Asset Management principles that are consistent with BC Hydro’s practices to maximize value for customers and ratepayers and support business needs.
  • The candidate must provide consultative advice and input to operational, design, project, and other groups to ensure maintenance and sustaining capital issues are properly represented and considered, and participate with customers and internal and external stakeholders in planning and major projects, initiatives, and studies.
  • The candidate will be responsible for reporting on and conducting evaluations of station and system outages and asset failures.
  • The candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining current asset plans, strategies, and maintenance standards while tracking ongoing performance and work delivery.
  • The candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining spare and replacement strategies, supporting the development of emergency plans, and responding to major system events in a planning capacity.
  • The candidate must comply with the diverse array of regulatory and compliance requirements that BC Hydro is subject to, including WorkSafeBC requirements (e.g. asbestos, confined space, and fall arrest) and environmental requirements (e.g. the removal of assets with high concentrations of PCBs).
  • The candidate must support BC Hydro’s Mandatory Reliability Standards (MRS) program and ensure all MRS requirements for substations are met.
  • The candidate will support broader corporate requirements, including BC Hydro’s Regulatory Requirement Applications, the Integrated Resource Plan, and BC Hydro’s overall electrification goals and targets.
  • The candidate will be responsible for leading cross-functional asset management initiatives.
Job Requirements
  • The candidate must hold a Degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering recognized by Canadian universities.
  • The candidate must be registered, or eligible for immediate registration, as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (EGBC).
  • The candidate must have a minimum of eight (8) years of experience, preferably with substation experience gained while working for an electric utility. Applicants who do not meet the full qualifications or have less work experience may be considered for a lower-level position.
  • The candidate must hold a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • The candidate must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of NERC Mandatory Reliability Standards.
  • The candidate must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of Asset Management philosophies.
  • The candidate must demonstrate experience in the planning, design, maintenance, or testing and commissioning of substation assets.
  • The candidate must demonstrate the ability to coordinate multiple programs and projects and plan and manage project resources.
  • The candidate must possess a PMP Certification, which will be considered an asset.
  • The candidate must have proven experience managing equipment maintenance, repair, and modification activities in a large electric utility. Project management experience is considered an asset.
  • The candidate must demonstrate the ability to implement sustainable changes that add clear value to the business.
  • The candidate must possess strong analytical, planning, and business management skills.
