ARC provides a full range of fertility services including investigations, surgery, IUI, IVF, ICSI, pre-implantation genetic testing, egg/sperm freezing, and early prenatal support. We pride ourselves in one-on-one patient care and work with our patients to provide an individualized, unique care plan. Our staff and our patients come first!

We are located on the West End of Edmonton, conveniently just off the Anthony Henday.

As a Sr. Embryologist you will be responsible for specialized technical procedures in the laboratory. Your role will include micromanipulation procedures on human oocytes and sperm, cryopreservation and thawing of human gametes, preparation of sperm specimens for and therapeutic procedures. You will assist with in-vitro fertilization and performing embryo transfers. You will conduct quality assurance and communicate results to patients. You will also assist in training Jr. team members and may act in a leadership capacity in the absence of the Lab Director.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Updating patient records in the EMR.
  • Addressing patient inquiries via phone, email and the patient portal.
  • Performing Laboratory Skills:
  • Determining fertility levels of individuals.
  • Collecting eggs and sperm (gametes) from patients for processing.
  • Maintaining viability of gametes, tissues and embryos during processing.
  • Micro manipulating and testing of suitability of each gamete.
  • Preparing gametes and the environment for in vitro fertilization (IVF) and facilitation of fertilization.
  • Using ART to help with infertility.
  • Preserving gametes and embryos for future use.
  • Embryo culture and cryopreservation.
  • Monitoring of embryo development.
  • Selecting embryo for transfer to recipient women, research or other intended use and the implantation of embryos into reproductive organs.
  • Monitoring and maintaining cryobanks.
  • Maintaining an understanding of human reproductive biology, embryology, infertility and assisted reproductive technology.
  • Having knowledge of and complying with quality control, ethical issues, and regulations surrounding gamete and embryo handling.
  • Training of Jr. team members
  • Caring and maintenance of equipment.
  • Keeping records.
  • Maintaining the utmost confidentiality with all patients.
  • Adhering to the standard operational procedures for the laboratory.
  • Ensuring equipment is functioning according to specifications.
  • Adhering to safe and ethical laboratory practices.
  • Working effectively within the team.
  • Recording observations and results accurately and fully, and placing them in a clinical context.
  • Abiding by and following ARC’s policies and procedures

Qualification & Licensures

  • Masters of Embryology or in relevant sciences such as biological sciences, reproductive biology, or animal scienced from an accredited tertiary educational institute (with Canadian or provincial equivalency as required).
  • 8 or more years of experience as an Embryologist in an IVF laboratory.
  • Certification from the Canadian Fertility & Andrology Society is an asset.
  • Leadership experience in a laboratory setting is an asset.
  • PhD in relevant science is considered an asset.
