Job description

Electrical Engineer Job Description

The Electrical Engineer will be responsible for designing and reviewing electrical systems for projects, including power, lighting, and control systems. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Designing power, lighting, and basic control systems.
  2. Creating detailed Cable Tray designs, layouts, and 3D models.
  3. Performing heat tracing calculations and developing isometric drawings.
  4. Inspecting on-skid electrical shops.
  5. Selecting and procuring electrical materials and major equipment.
  6. Preparing cable schedules, sizing, and selecting cables, connectors, and trays.
  7. Developing block diagrams for fire alarm risers, breakers, and starter interlocking/logic schemes.
  8. Preparing data sheets and detailed material take-offs.
  9. Ensuring compliance with materials and standards.
  10. Designing motor control systems for low and medium voltage.
  11. Designing switchgear layouts and controls for low and medium voltage systems.
  12. Developing hazardous area classifications according to CSA, API, and IEC standards.
  13. Developing single line diagrams using North American and international symbols.
  14. Reviewing project deliverables from other electrical team members.
  15. Supporting the development of department standards, installation details, specifications, and procedures.
  16. Estimating electrical requirements for skid fabrication, tray and cable layouts on main pipe racks, site lighting, grounding, MCC, and control buildings.
  17. Conducting coordination studies, short circuit analysis, load flow, grounding (step and touch potentials), and harmonic analysis using ETAP.
  18. Coordinating scope of work with other disciplines.
  19. Preparing certificates of compliance for electrical equipment.
  20. Providing engineering support to the Electrical Engineering Manager.
  21. Assisting in coordinating project deliverables with the design/drafting department.
Experience
  • At least 10 years of experience in a related industry with a focus on skid fabrication.
Education and Accreditation
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Professional registration as P.Eng or P.L. (Eng) with APEGA (Electrical).
