Electrical Engineer Job Description
The Electrical Engineer will be responsible for designing and reviewing electrical systems for projects, including power, lighting, and control systems. Key responsibilities include:
- Designing power, lighting, and basic control systems.
- Creating detailed Cable Tray designs, layouts, and 3D models.
- Performing heat tracing calculations and developing isometric drawings.
- Inspecting on-skid electrical shops.
- Selecting and procuring electrical materials and major equipment.
- Preparing cable schedules, sizing, and selecting cables, connectors, and trays.
- Developing block diagrams for fire alarm risers, breakers, and starter interlocking/logic schemes.
- Preparing data sheets and detailed material take-offs.
- Ensuring compliance with materials and standards.
- Designing motor control systems for low and medium voltage.
- Designing switchgear layouts and controls for low and medium voltage systems.
- Developing hazardous area classifications according to CSA, API, and IEC standards.
- Developing single line diagrams using North American and international symbols.
- Reviewing project deliverables from other electrical team members.
- Supporting the development of department standards, installation details, specifications, and procedures.
- Estimating electrical requirements for skid fabrication, tray and cable layouts on main pipe racks, site lighting, grounding, MCC, and control buildings.
- Conducting coordination studies, short circuit analysis, load flow, grounding (step and touch potentials), and harmonic analysis using ETAP.
- Coordinating scope of work with other disciplines.
- Preparing certificates of compliance for electrical equipment.
- Providing engineering support to the Electrical Engineering Manager.
- Assisting in coordinating project deliverables with the design/drafting department.
Experience
- At least 10 years of experience in a related industry with a focus on skid fabrication.
Education and Accreditation
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Professional registration as P.Eng or P.L. (Eng) with APEGA (Electrical).
