Job summary

CIBC is seeking a Senior Director of Insurance and Simplii Finance in Toronto to lead financial reporting, forecasting, and strategic planning for key groups. You will oversee the monthly and quarterly close process, provide proactive insights, and drive process improvements across Finance.

As a senior leader, you will manage a team, collaborate with cross-functional partners, and ensure accurate and timely financial packages for executives.

Qualifications

• Advanced knowledge of planning, costing and analytical procedures.
• Extensive knowledge of accounting/reporting systems (EBI, Essbase).
• CPA designation and degree in accounting/finance are expected assets.

Responsibilities

• Oversee management reporting for Insurance and Simplii, and related groups.
• Lead annual and quarterly financial planning and forecasts for divisions.
• Provide in-depth reporting/analysis on sales, costs and profitability to senior management.
• Coordinate with Finance partners to optimize cost allocations and reporting.
• Develop and mentor finance teams to improve performance and delivery.

What You’ll Be Doing

The Sr. Director, Insurance and Simplii Finance is responsible for financial requirements of the following groups: Insurance, Simplii, Marketing, Digital Platforms & Client Engagement, and AI, Data, and Analytics Office. The responsibilities include ensuring all financial reporting, forecasting, and analysis requirements for both PBB CFO Finance and the partner groups are met. This includes regular weekly/monthly/ quarterly/ annual reporting as well as handling ad hoc requests from both groups. In addition to ensuring all financial packages are delivered on a timely and accurate basis, also provide proactive analysis, recommendations, insight and context in support of decision making by leadership. Continuously seek to improve existing processes and work collaboratively with the Business and various teams across Finance.

How You’ll Succeed

• Management Reporting - Evaluate business unit performance through detailed analysis and interpretation of financial results and key business metrics. Work closely with the Accounting Policy and Controllership to interpret and assess the impact of management accounting policies on business results.Present and communicate effectively to executive stakeholders on the forward view of financial drivers to Insurance and Simplii businesses. Ensure reporting requirements for PBB CFO Finance are met each month and appropriate level of review with the Business is conducted. Direct, coordinate and communicate the impacts from ALCO product pricing assumptions.
• Financial and Strategic Planning - Direct, coordinate and oversee the preparation of the annual and strategic plan and quarterly latest estimates for Insurance and Simplii. Understand and articulate the drivers for the businesses, ensuring consistent market and business assumptions across product categories. Present plan/forecasts to executive stakeholders, highlighting the key drivers for revenue/expenses, assumptions, as well as the identification of material risks and opportunities
• Management Information and Analysis - Provide approval recommendations for business cases, new product/campaign launches and new business initiatives following appropriate financial review and due diligence with appropriate business stakeholders. Give trusted advice to product owners on the short and long term impacts of significant special projects/strategic partnerships. Provide accurate in-depth reporting/analysis (monthly, quarterly/annual) on sales, distribution, market productivity and market share to senior management. Identify opportunities to improve existing reporting and forecasting processes and work with key players to implement changes
• Stakeholder/Partner Relationship Management - Coordinate with partners in other areas of CIBC Finance to optimize linkages and service levels. Build understanding and acceptance of allocated costs in the recipient community by working with and providing appropriate reporting to finance and business partners.
• People Management/Leadership - Set appropriate context when assigning work to ensure that individuals’ roles support the achievement of the business unit’s priorities and CIBC’s overall goals. Build team and individual capabilities by providing development opportunities such as job shadowing, special projects, and training. Manage performance by providing fair and accurate formal and informal feedback, identifying and removing obstacles to performance and by explaining how performance expectations align with business priorities.

Who You Are

• You can demonstrate advanced knowledge of planning, costing and/or analytical procedures and techniques. In addition, you have extensive knowledge and understanding of accounting/reporting systems (EBI, Essbase), and the ability to identify, extract, and use the information to the user’s advantage. Further you you have extensive knowledge of regulatory issues or complex accounting/reporting systems and the ability to identify, extract and apply the information for others use. It’s an asset if you have knowledge of mortgages and lending operations and transfer pricing methodology.
• You have a degree in accounting, finance, or related field, along with a CPA designation.
