Position Summary (Purpose of job):

The Senior Director, Enterprise Infrastructure Operations is accountable for the stability, performance, security, and cost-effectiveness of all enterprise infrastructure services across on-premises and cloud environments. This role ensures operational excellence for compute, storage, backup, and cloud-hosted workloads, while leading managed service providers (MSPs) and internal teams to deliver reliable, secure, and compliant services at scale. This leader owns Infrastructure Operations, ensuring services are resilient, measurable, and continuously improved to meet business and clinical needs.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Own End-to-End Infrastructure Operations: Accountable for day-to-day operations of compute, storage, backup, and cloud infrastructure services. Ensure high availability, performance, and reliability of all infrastructure platforms supporting business-critical systems. Establish and enforce operational standards, procedures, and runbooks. Lead incident, problem, and change management practices with a focus on minimizing business disruption.
  2. Drive Operational Excellence & Service Reliability: Define and manage SLAs, SLOs, and KPIs for infrastructure services. Implement proactive monitoring, alerting, and capacity management across all platforms. Lead root cause analysis and ensure permanent resolution of recurring issues. Continuously improve operational maturity, automation, and service quality.
  3. MSP & Partner Operational Governance: Own the performance and accountability of Managed Service Providers (MSPs). Establish clear operating models, KPIs, and governance cadences with service providers. Ensure adherence to SLAs, contractual obligations, and service quality expectations. Partner with Vendor Management Office / Sourcing & Procurement on renewals, performance management, and cost optimization.
  4. Infrastructure Security, Risk & Compliance: Ensure infrastructure operations comply with cybersecurity policies, audit requirements, and regulatory standards. Lead remediation of vulnerabilities, patching compliance, and audit findings. Partner with Security and Risk teams to strengthen operational resilience and reduce exposure. Maintain audit readiness across all infrastructure domains.
  5. Cloud & Hybrid Workload Operations: Oversee operational management of workloads across hybrid and multi-cloud environments. Ensure consistent operational practices across on-prem and cloud platforms. Optimize cloud operations for performance, and scalability. Partner with Cloud Platforms and Infrastructure Engineering teams on transition to operations for newly deployed services.
  6. Financial & Capacity Management: Own infrastructure operational budgets, including partners consumption-based services. Drive cost optimization initiatives across compute, storage, backup, and cloud. Provide transparency into cost drivers, forecasting, and allocation. Align capacity planning with business demand and growth.
  7. Documentation, Observability & Reporting: Ensure accurate and up-to-date documentation of infrastructure services, configurations, and dependencies. Deliver operational dashboards and executive reporting on performance, risks, and trends. Provide actionable insights on capacity, utilization, and service health.
  8. Leadership & Organizational Development: Build and lead a high-performing operations organization, including internal teams and external partners. Define clear roles and accountability between internal staff and MSPs. Develop leadership capability within the team, particularly in operational discipline and service management. Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and customer focus.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Education/Training – Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or related field; advanced degree or professional certifications in related areas preferred.
  • Critical Skills – 12+ years of experience in enterprise infrastructure operations, including leadership roles overseeing large-scale, hybrid (on-prem and cloud) environments. Strong understanding of IT financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost optimization. Broad knowledge of enterprise infrastructure technologies, with depth in compute, storage, backup, and cloud platforms, and the ability to govern complex environments. Proven experience managing hybrid and cloud operations (preferably Microsoft Azure), including workload operations, cost control, and performance management. Solid understanding of infrastructure operations disciplines: monitoring, patching, capacity management, incident/problem/change management. Working knowledge of legacy platforms (e.g. IBMi (OS/400) / AS/400 environments) to ensure operational continuity and risk management. Strong understanding of infrastructure security, risk, and compliance frameworks (e.g., SOX, SOC 1&2), including audit readiness and vulnerability remediation. Demonstrated experience in MSP/vendor management, including defining SLAs, driving performance, and holding partners accountable for outcomes. Strong leadership skills with experience building and leading operations-focused teams, including managing internal staff and external providers. Proven ability to drive operational excellence and service reliability in complex, large-scale environments. Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively at executive and operational levels. Experience leading in highly complex, matrixed organizations, driving alignment across infrastructure, security, and application teams. Strong knowledge of ITIL / IT Service Management practices (incident, problem, change, service level management). Relevant certifications (cloud, ITIL, infrastructure technologies) are an asset; emphasis on operational leadership over technical specialization.
