Position: Sr. DevOps Engineer Lead
The Sr. DevOps Engineer Lead is responsible for leading the design, implementation, and ongoing management of cloud-based and managed service environments for Smile Digital Health. This role will focus on scalability, security, automation, and operational excellence, ensuring the seamless deployment and integration of the platform into diverse customer environments. The Lead will drive DevOps best practices, oversee complex cloud projects, and provide technical guidance to the engineering team.
Responsibilities:
- Build, develop, and deploy scripts and infrastructure as code for Smile Digital Health and related services.
- Implement infrastructure monitoring, logging, and alerting to improve system visibility.
- Develop and maintain software deployment strategies, including data storage methods like clustering.
- Optimize cost and resource utilization across multi-cloud environments (AWS, Azure).
- Maintain build and deployment pipelines to ensure quality delivery.
- Review and consult on assessments, building, testing, and deployment related to business continuity and disaster recovery.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet timelines and deliverables.
- Investigate and resolve customer integration issues during implementation.
- Support and mentor DevOps team members and new hires.
- Foster a DevOps culture and promote an ‘Everything as Code’ approach.
- Document best practices and lessons learned for continuous improvement.
- Establish technical relationships with development teams.
- Design, implement, and maintain secure, scalable infrastructure templates and deployment pipelines.
- Provide ongoing maintenance and support of internal tools infrastructure.
- Maintain documentation on development pipelines.
- Assist developers and engineers with deployments and builds.
- Enforce DevSecOps principles and integrate security throughout the lifecycle.
- Lead incident response efforts and develop root cause analyses.
- Collaborate to ensure SLAs are met for uptime, performance, and security.
- Ensure accurate reporting of work hours and proper utilization of project management tools.
- Comply with privacy, security, and confidentiality policies.
Requirements:
- 8+ years in a DevOps Engineer project lead or similar role, with 3+ years in a lead capacity overseeing multi-cloud environments.
- Ability to lead multiple projects and priorities.
- Expertise in cloud-native tools/services (AWS, Azure, GCP, OCI), especially SaaS and Managed Services.
- Proficiency in Python and good knowledge of Java applications.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps tools (Azure DevOps, Jenkins, GitLab CI). Experience with GitOps tools like ArgoCD and Flux is a plus.
- Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM Templates).
- Experience with containerization and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes, Helm).
- Understanding of cloud security best practices, identity management, and compliance frameworks.
- Experience with QA testing in deployment stages.
- Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/EFK, OpenTelemetry).
- Nice to have: Kafka, FHIR standards experience.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
- Customer-first mindset and responsiveness.
- Knowledge of cloud service providers and managing customer environments (preferred).
- Experience with Linux production systems and cloud environments (asset).
- Understanding of Kubernetes or similar orchestration tools (nice to have).
