Position Summary (Purpose of job): The Data Engineering – Level 4 provides technical leadership in designing, implementing, and optimizing McKesson’s enterprise data infrastructure to enable advanced analytics and decision-making. This position is responsible for building scalable data pipelines, developing ETL programs, and ensuring data integrity, reliability, and compliance within a regulated environment. The role involves creating custom software components, maintaining metadata repositories, and implementing processes for data standardization and quality improvements. Collaborating with architects, analysts, and data scientists, the Sr. Data Engineering role drives innovation in data engineering practices and contributes to the development of robust, production-ready solutions that support strategic and operational objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and implement scalable data pipelines and ETL programs to integrate complex data sources across internal and external systems.
• Write and optimize advanced queries using SQL and Python to improve data processing and query performance.
• Develop and maintain metadata repositories, ensuring data integrity, accuracy, and usability for enterprise systems.
• Create and implement processes for data standardization, reliability, and quality improvements across platforms.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex data analytic issues, including production and development problems related to database management systems.
• Develop and maintain query libraries and custom software components to support analytics and reporting needs.
• Recommend and implement tools, technologies, and best practices to enhance data engineering capabilities and system performance.
• Ensure adherence to governance, security, and regulatory compliance through rigorous data quality checks and documentation.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align data solutions with enterprise architecture and business priorities.
• Provide technical leadership and mentor junior engineering teams to promote best practices and continuous improvement.

Minimum Job Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities):

• Expertise in designing and maintaining data pipelines, ETL processes, and data integration across complex systems.
• Advanced proficiency in SQL and Python for query optimization and data processing.
• Strong knowledge of data modeling and design, including entity relationships and metadata management.
• Familiarity with big data technologies such as Hadoop, Apache Kafka, and distributed file systems (HDFS).
• Ability to implement processes for data standardization, reliability, and quality improvements.
• Competence in troubleshooting complex data issues and resolving conflicts between models.
• Skills in developing custom software components and analytics applications.
• Effective communication and leadership skills for guiding technical decisions and mentoring team members.

Business Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Typically requires 7+ years of relevant professional experience in data engineering or related fields.
• Hands-on experience with advanced ETL development, SQL/Python scripting, and data integration across multiple platforms.
• Experience in healthcare or other regulated industries is preferred.

Our Base Pay Range for this position $99,100 - $132,100
