Job description

Our client, a leading financial institution in Downtown Toronto, is looking for a Senior Cloud Engineer – GCP to build and operate highly available and scalable software and infrastructure. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with one of the Top 5 Banks in Canada.

Typical Day in Role:

1. Design, develop, and maintain cloud platforms, services, and components to enable enterprise-wide use of public cloud offerings.
2. Take technical ownership and provide leadership for a component of a larger product.
3. Design, implement, and refactor code (typically in Go, Python).
4. Ensure software, programs, and applications meet high availability, security, integrity, and compliance standards.
5. Collaborate with lead engineers and architects on task scoping and estimation.
6. Assist application teams with onboarding onto the platform.
7. Participate in planning, retrospectives, stand-ups, and other Agile ceremonies.
8. Provide mentorship, peer reviews, and code reviews.
9. Lead a product or service, define features for cloud platforms, and oversee a team of 4+ engineers.
10. Engage in daily stand-ups, track work in Kanban, and work towards sprint goals.

Must-Have Skills:

1. 8+ years of hands-on experience with Cloud Environments such as GCP, AWS, Azure.
2. 1-2 years of hands-on cloud operations and administration experience with GCP.
3. 5+ years of experience in Infrastructure Operations, DevOps, or Cloud Engineering Operations roles.
4. 5+ years of experience with development/scripting languages, container technologies, configuration management tools, CI/CD, and Infrastructure as Code.

Nice-To-Have Skills:

1. GCP Network (GCNV) experience.
2. Google Cloud Storage (GCS) experience.

Soft Skills:

1. Strong oral and written communication skills.
2. Passion for driving teams towards high performance and a commitment to quality craftsmanship.
3. Ability to communicate effectively with internal stakeholders.

Education:

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or Mathematics.
