Role Overview

We are looking for an analytical, results-oriented, self-motivated, and customer-focused Business Intelligence Engineer. In this role, you will build critical data pipelines and analytics tools to transform how we engage with readers and help them discover their next book.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will possess excellent statistical and analytical skills, business acumen, and strong technical expertise. They are a self-starter, comfortable with ambiguity, capable of thinking creatively and paying close attention to detail, thriving in a fast-paced environment. You should have broad skills in database design, experience handling large and complex datasets, and proficiency in building self-service dashboards and visualization tools, applying analytical rigor to solve business problems.

Key Responsibilities

1. Design, develop, and maintain datasets, metrics, analyses, and dashboards to support key business decisions.
2. Create queries and visualizations for ad-hoc requests and ongoing reporting.
3. Improve reporting and analysis processes, automating or simplifying self-service support for users.
4. Use analytical and statistical methods to identify performance gaps and optimization opportunities.
5. Collaborate with data engineering and software engineering teams on technical issues.
6. Promote best practices in ETL processes and mentor team members.

Basic Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional or military experience.
• 5+ years of SQL experience.
• Experience working with large (multi-TB) datasets for data extraction, transformation, and cleaning.
• Knowledge of design of experiments and statistical analysis.
• Experience with AWS technologies.
• Proficiency in scripting languages like Python and advanced SQL skills.
• Knowledge of data science, machine learning, and data mining.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience collaborating with business stakeholders to align data solutions with business needs.
• Experience communicating results to senior leadership.
