Job summary

RBC is seeking an experienced Android Developer to design, build, and maintain mobile apps for Android. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, scalable solutions.

You will lead feature development, review code, and adopt modern Android practices with Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, MVVM, and clean architecture while focusing on robust delivery and reliability.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional Android development experience with Kotlin.
• Strong understanding of the Android SDK, Jetpack libraries (ViewModel, Paging, Navigation, Room), Jetpack Compose and DI frameworks like Dagger/Hilt.
• Experience with architectural patterns such as MVVM, MVI, or Clean Architecture.
• Solid experience with RESTful APIs, GraphQL, or other web services.
• Strong understanding of Material Design principles and ability to implement complex UI/UX designs.
• Proficiency with Git and Git-based workflows.
• Hands-on experience with testing frameworks like JUnit, Espresso, or Mockito.

What is the opportunity?

The RBC Digital team is a dynamic and innovative group. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Android Developer to join our team. As an Android Developer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, maintaining and modernizing our mobile applications for Android platforms. You will work closely with our cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize project requirements and deliver high-quality solutions that meet our business needs. In addition, you will also be responsible for the ongoing maintenance of the applications in a support role.

What will you do?

You will be a key contributor to mobile development efforts on one of our squads working on the RBC Digital team. This will include:

• Feature development to expand the functionality of mobile applications
• Providing technology and application development expertise – Lead analysis, design, coding, testing, tracking and deployment
• Participating in code reviews to ensure quality of code delivered by the team
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams to implement features and to resolve issues
• Continuously improving the app, finding ways to simplify and refactor code
• Stay ahead by proactively learning about emerging technologies and potential obsolescence to address vulnerabilities and drive innovative solutions.
• Work with operations and infrastructure teams to take promote code to production and ensure excellent performance and reliability.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have:

• 5+ years of professional Android development experience with Kotlin.
• Strong understanding of Android SDK, Jetpack libraries (e.g., ViewModel, Paging, Navigation, Room), Jetpack compose and dependency injection frameworks like Dagger/Hilt.
• Experience with architectural patterns such as MVVM, MVI, or Clean Architecture.
• Solid experience with RESTful APIs, GraphQL, or other web services.
• Strong understanding of Material Design principles and ability to implement complex UI/UX designs.
• Proficiency with Git and Git-based workflows.
• Hands-on experience with testing frameworks like JUnit, Espresso, or Mockito.
• A passion for software development and a drive to deliver innovative, robust solutions
• Strong collaboration and teamwork skills, with a willingness to share ideas and expertise with team members
• Effective communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex technical concepts and solutions
• The ability to actively participate in technical discussions and design exercises, contributing to the development of creative solutions and ensuring successful project outcomes

Nice-to-have:

• KMP (Kotlin Multiplatform)
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development platforms (e.g., GitHub Copilot, IDE plugins)
• Knowledge of Firebase services (e.g., Firestore, Analytics, Crashlytics).
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines for Android apps.
• Experience with multi-module projects or modularization.
• Understanding of security best practices for mobile app development.
• Tracking, reporting and analyzing application metrics and key performance indicators; recommending improvements.
