Reporting to the Manager, Health & Safety, the Senior Health & Safety Advisor, Distribution is responsible for promoting and leading a safety culture focused on engagement rather than compliance.

Using data and analysis to guide prevention strategies and decision-making, the Senior Health & Safety Advisor ensures that RONA proactively addresses opportunities identified with a process or policy contributing to a hazardous situation in order to achieve our goal of zero accidents within the distribution network.

This requires close coordination / collaboration with the various business units and functions within the distribution network.

Your Role

  • Hybrid Position
  • Support incidents investigation, determining root causes and incorporating preventive measures.
  • Develop and implement health and safety programs to address health and safety issues.
  • Consolidate, analyze and provide a summary of all occupational injury and illness statistics, including near miss incidents, to the management team and JHSC on a monthly basis.
  • Provide support to hourly and salaried staff by having a visible presence in the warehouse, promoting safety plans, goals, objectives and measures.
  • Commit to fostering positive staff relations to gain commitment from all RDC staff - Participate in monthly JHSC meetings.
  • Ensure that all health and safety communication boards are maintained and updated to meet provincial and company standards.
  • Participate in monthly JHSC meetings.
  • Identify and inform management of compliance issues, safety risks and opportunities for improvement through daily, weekly and monthly audits.
  • Regularly review programs, bulletins and reports and communicate facility safety issues and changes to team members.
  • Collect and analyze statistical data related to the RDC Health & Safety program.
  • Prepare various reports in support of various health and safety initiatives.
  • Lead existing occupational health and safety programs, including risk assessments, workplace inspections and incident investigation programs.

Required qualifications

  • Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene or Industrial Engineering preferred and 3+ years of pertinent experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of applicable occupational health and safety legislation concepts and relevant CSA standards.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of health and safety investigation techniques and provincial investigation requirements, such as critical accident investigations.
