Position Overview

In this role, we are looking for team leaders that can travel throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan to support our crews in the field and interact with our clients and landowners to ensure access and safety is maintained along utility corridors and power distribution stations. A prospective employee will ideally have 2-3 years of experience in previous pesticide employment, particularly in industrial or landscaping applications, though experience in other related fields may be accepted. A strong emphasis will be focused on working independently away from our main offices for several days at a time during our summer season.

This challenging position entails the supervision of crews in the field applying herbicides to manage brush and noxious weeds on utility facilities, power line rights-of-ways, and pipeline rights-of-way. The application of herbicides varies from selective backpack treatments to large scale foliar treatments utilizing 1-ton trucks, all-terrain vehicles, and/or heavy equipment.

Job Duties
  • Supervision of crews in the field performing chemical and mechanical vegetation control.
  • Oversee crew operations and conduct regular safety and performance checks.
  • Operate herbicide applicator equipment, adhering to all company and environmental standards.
  • Conduct pre-patrol surveys of locations to facilitate crew access and identify pre-existing hazards.
  • Contact landowners and clients to facilitate the completion of the work.
  • Perform post-patrol quality control inspections of completed applications.
  • Abide by Davey and industry safety policies and procedures.
  • Asset: Air brakes, herbicide applicators certificate, H2S, WHMIS, Standard First Aid with CPR, ATV training, heavy equipment operating experience, customer relations, site assessments, weed identification, equipment maintenance, and crew management.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
  • Attention to detail, and proficiency in using tablets, Windows, and Excel are required.
  • Ability to work safely as part of a team and possess the willingness to learn and progress.
  • Ability to contact landowners and clients and address concerns.
  • Ability to perform safety inspections and quality control on completed work.
  • Familiarity with Alberta and Saskatchewan legal land navigation and map reading.
Additional Information
  • Extensive travel is required for this role. Hotel costs are covered by Davey Tree and virtually all expenses are covered.
  • Wages are dependent on prior experience and certifications.
  • Wages range from $27-$30 dollars an hour depending on experience and certifications, along with a $50.00 tax-free living allowance paid for out-of-town work.
  • Davey provides all safety and protective clothing required, but new employees must provide their own CSA steel-toed rubber boots.
