Job description

Position Overview

In this role, you will travel across MANITOBA to support our clients by maintaining access and safety along utility corridors and power distribution stations. Candidates must possess a Class 5 driver's license and have access to a vehicle.

This position involves applying herbicides to manage brush and noxious weeds on utility facilities, power lines, industrial rights-of-ways, wind turbines, and roadways. Treatments range from selective backpack applications to large-scale foliar treatments using 1-ton trucks, all-terrain vehicles, and heavy equipment.

Job Duties
  • Perform chemical and mechanical vegetation control.
  • Maintain detailed records of herbicide use, inventory, and equipment.
  • Operate herbicide applicator, following all safety and environmental standards.
  • Maintain, prepare, and operate all tools and equipment properly.
  • Follow safety policies and procedures of Davey and the industry.
  • Manage customer service expectations.
Qualifications
  • No experience necessary; herbicidal application experience is preferred.
  • Assets include: Air brakes, herbicide applicator certification, H2S, WHMIS, Standard First Aid with CPR, ATV training, and heavy equipment operation experience.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
  • Attention to detail and proficiency with tablets, Windows, and Excel are required for all potential crew leaders.
  • Ability to work safely in a team and a willingness to learn and advance.
Additional Information
  • Extensive travel required; hotel and most expenses covered by Davey.
  • Wages depend on experience and certifications, with potential for advancement and full-time employment.
  • Wage range: $20.00 - $27.00, plus a $50 tax-free living allowance for out-of-town work.
  • Safety and protective clothing are provided; employees must supply CSA steel-toed rubber boots.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Ongoing training and advancement opportunities are available.
