Position Overview

In this role, you will travel across Alberta and Saskatchewan to support our clients in ensuring access and safety is maintained along utility corridors and power distribution stations. All prospective employees must possess a class 5 driver's license and have access to a vehicle to travel to our Nisku AB office for training and mobilization.

This challenging position entails applying herbicides to manage brush and noxious weeds on utility facilities, power line and industrial rights-of-ways, wind turbines, and roadways. The application of herbicides varies from selective backpack treatments to large-scale foliar treatments utilizing 1-ton trucks, all-terrain vehicles, and/or heavy equipment.

Job Duties
  • Perform chemical and mechanical vegetation control.
  • Maintain meticulous records of herbicide use, inventory, and equipment.
  • Operate herbicide applicator, adhering to all company and environmental standards.
  • Properly maintain, prepare, and operate all tools and equipment.
  • Abide by Davey and industry safety policies and procedures.
  • Manage customer service expectations.
Qualifications
  • No experience necessary; however, herbicidal application experience is preferred.
  • Asset: Air brakes, herbicide applicators certificate, H2S, WHIMIS, Standard First Aid with CPR, ATV training, and heavy equipment operating experience.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
  • Attention to detail and proficiency using tablets, Windows, and Excel are strongly encouraged and required for all potential crew leaders.
  • Ability to work safely as part of a team and possess the willingness to learn and progress.
Additional Information
  • Extensive travel is required for this role. Hotel costs are covered by Davey Tree and virtually all expenses are covered.
  • Wages are dependent on prior experience and certifications. Earning potential throughout the season for those interested in additional training to become crew foreperson or operate specialized equipment, or looking for potential full-time employment.
  • Wage: $20.00 - $27.00 along with a $50 tax-free living allowance paid for out-of-town work.
  • Start date expected beginning of May and end approximately August/September.
  • Davey provides all safety and protective clothing required, but new employees must provide their own CSA steel-toed rubber boots.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Davey provides ongoing training and advancement opportunities.
