Job summary

North Vancouver Recreation & Culture (NVRC) seeks casual Sports Instructors to lead evening and weekend programs across NVRC facilities this fall and winter. Instructors may cover basketball, soccer, pickleball, badminton, tumbling and multisport, with gym-host duties as needed.

You will plan engaging lessons, ensure safety and inclusivity, and deliver quality instruction to a diverse range of participants.

Qualifications

• Applicants must be minimum 16 years of age and capable of planning and leading programs.
• Emergency First Aid certification or equivalent 8-hour course is required.
• HIGH FIVE certification is required within three months of employment.

North Vancouver Recreation & Culture (NVRC) is dedicated to building healthy individuals, families and communities. We offer a wide range of recreation and cultural programs and services to residents of all ages and abilities. We are looking for positive, enthusiastic and friendly individuals to deliver memorable experiences to our customers.

WHAT WE ARE HIRING FOR

We are hiring for:

• Sports Instructors to run programs primarily on evenings and weekends throughout the fall and winter season. Sports that we need instructors for this Fall Season include:
  • Basketball: Sundays 10:45-11:45am, Thursdays 6:45-9:00pm and Girls Only Fridays 3:30-6:15
  • Soccer: Saturday 9:00am-1:15
  • Pickleball: Sunday 3:15-6:00pm, Tuesday 9:00am-1:30pm
  • Badminton: Monday 3:45-5:00, Saturday 2:45-5:15pm
  • Tumbling: Saturday 9:00am-12:45pm
  • Multisport: Saturday 9:00am-1:15pm, Sunday 8:45-10:30am
  • Gym Host: Monday 1:00-4:30pm, Wednesday 2:00-4:30pm

Please note this is NOT for summer camps, however there are casual shifts as an instructor and gym host available during the summer.

We are currently looking multiple sport instructors in the sports noted above. We offer a wide variety of sport programs and your ability to instruct multiple sports will be an asset. You may be placed at any NVRC facility.

ABOUT YOU

You are an energetic and highly motivated individual who is available to instruct one or more of our many sports programs. You are a team player who is committed to community. You are reliable, responsive to customer needs and excellent at building relationships. You are courteous and effective with the public and enjoy working with a diverse group of people and instructing in a safe and friendly manner. You will be responsible for lesson planning, and delivering quality instruction to early years and school age children, youth, adults and/or seniors. NVRC sport instructors promote the principles of physical literacy and include the development of fundamental movement skills in each class.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

• Applicants must be a minimum 16 years of age, with an athletic aptitude and have some experience planning and leading programs.
• A current Emergency First Aid certification or equivalent 8-hour course is required. HIGH FIVE certification (available online at highfive.org) is required within three months of employment.
• All employees should be prepared to work at any North Vancouver Recreation & Culture location. All candidates are required to submit a Police Information Check as a condition of employment.

HOURS OF WORK:

Hours may vary depending on the program, and instructors should be prepared to workdays, evenings and/or weekends.

HOURLY RATE:

The pay for this casual position ranges between $19.57-$25.01 per hour, based on education and experience, plus 4% vacation pay.
