Job summary

District of West Vancouver is seeking casual Gymnastics Coaches to join our community services team on the North Shore. Coaches will work with preschool to adult participants, delivering safe, engaging programs and camps under the Gymnastics program coordinator.

Required are Level 1 Gymnastics (and/or Trampoline foundations), first aid/CPR, and Respect in Sport; also requires police check and credential verification. Union WVMEA; hours vary by schedule.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Level 1 Gymnastics certification or Gymnastics Foundations Part 1-3.
  • Level 1 Trampoline certification or equivalent.
  • Respect in Sport and Making Ethical Decisions completed.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification required.
  • Experience with children, youth and the public preferred.
  • Ability to supply a police information check and credentials.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and take down circuits and gym equipment as needed.
  • Take attendance and ensure classes run on time.
  • Distribute assigned literature to participants.
  • Evaluate and mentor CITs and Junior Coaches.
  • Create lesson plans and complete report cards.
  • Occasional light maintenance and cleaning of the gymnastics centre.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

The West Vancouver Community Services Department has openings for casual Gymnastic Coaches to join our team. We are seeking coaches who show professionalism, love to work with children, can communicate easily with families and are highly motivated team players. Reporting to the Gymnastics Program Coordinator, Gymnastics Coaches are responsible for coaching preschool, children’s core gymnastics, youth and adult drop-ins, gymnastics holiday camps and birthday parties. Gymnastics Coaches teach the fundamentals of gymnastics to children and provides each child with the technical opportunity to develop to their maximum potential. Examples of work include:

  • Setting up and taking down circuits and needed gym equipment;
  • taking attendance and ensuring that classes run on time;
  • distributing assigned literature;
  • evaluating and mentoring CIT’s and Junior Coaches;
  • creating lesson plans and completing report cards;
  • occasional light maintenance and cleaning of gymnastics centre;
  • performing other related duties as required.

The preferred candidate will possess: knowledge of gymnastics programs and activities; the ability to communicate in a positive and effective manner with all ages; the ability to enforce guidelines for safety in the gym; strong leadership skills, the ability to communicate to other gymnastics staff in emergency situations and be able to lead creative and fun games in a gym.

Required qualifications include: a minimum certification of Level 1 Gymnastics and Level 1 Trampoline or certified in Gymnastics Foundations Part 1, 2 & 3 (artistic, trampoline and active start); completion of Respect in Sport and Making Ethical Decisions; current First Aid and CPR; and some experience working with children, youth and the public.

The successful candidate will be required to supply an acceptable police information check and a copy of their credentials.

Rates of Pay for each position:
  • Gymnastics Instructor I - $27.27 per hour plus 14% in lieu of benefits
  • Gymnastics Instructor II - $29.96 per hour plus 14% in lieu of benefits

These positions have a pay structure with two steps which increase based on the number of hours worked in the position.
