POSITION SUMMARY

This position's purpose is to provide best-in-class sport medicine support to nationally-identified AC athletes based at the East Hub and remotely, to facilitate overall performance enhancement. As a sport physician, you will collaborate with other members of the Sport Science, Sport Medicine and Innovation team at Athletics Canada, including therapists, dieticians, strength & conditioning coaches, physiologists, biomechanists, and mental health and mental performance consultants.

The Sport Medicine Physician will support identified AC athletes as directed by the AC High-Performance Director (HPD) and Sport Science, Sport Medicine and Innovation Lead, while helping to further expand and develop this service area at both AC and CSIO.

Reporting structure

The CSIO / AC Sport Medicine Physician will have a direct report at Athletics Canada to the AC Sports Science Sports Medicine Innovation Lead, and at CSIO to the CSIO Manager, Health Solutions. The physician will also have an indirect report to the AC Chief Medical Officer and the CSIO Chief Medical Officer for technical mentorship.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

The role’s primary objectives are to :

  1. Provide regular clinical Sport Medicine Services for Canadian Athletic Performance Pathway (CAPP) athletes at the Athletics Canada East Hub once weekly.
  2. Provide virtual clinical Sport Medicine Services for decentralized CAPP athletes as required.
  3. Complete pre-season performance medicals for CAPP athletes.
  4. Maintain athlete health records using CSI Ontario’s EMR, OSCAR, and AC’s athlete monitoring system, Smartabase.
  5. Participate in weekly medical meetings for integration and collaboration with other Sport Medicine and High Performance staff across Athletics Canada training hubs and National Team Office.
  6. Facilitate medical consultations and referrals for CAPP athletes.
  7. Collaborate with the Athletics Canada Therapy Lead East hub / Olympic Program to support remote injury management plans for injured CAPP athletes.
  8. Attend CSIO medical meetings and staff meetings as required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

Required Experience, Qualifications and Skills

  • Membership-in-good-standing of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, licensed to practice general medicine in Ontario without restrictions.
  • Membership-in-good-standing of the Canadian Medical Protective Association with coverage for sport medicine, or equivalent malpractice insurance.
  • Diploma in Sport Medicine (Dip Sport Med) from CASEM, and a Certificate of Added Competency in Sport and Exercise Medicine (SEM) from CFPC, or equivalent certification from another country.
  • Experience working with high-performance athletes in a clinical sport medicine setting.
  • Valid OHIP billing number, and willingness to sign the CSIO’s OHIP group billing agreement.
  • Valid certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support.

Desired Experience, Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience in high-performance environments or with National Sporting Organizations preferred.
  • Background as a high-performance coach or athlete is an asset.
  • Knowledge of the Canadian Sport System is an asset.
  • Experience and/or knowledge in Track and Field is an asset.
