Description:

General Description of Class: Under general supervision, operates and maintains a number of motorized vehicles and specialized equipment; performs maintenance functions.

Responsibilities
  • drives and operates a pick-up truck, ice flooding machine, field grooming machine, ice edging machine, snow blower and outdoor vacuum, golf cart and other motorized vehicles as required
  • maintains sport playing surfaces including natural grass, AstroTurf, ice surfaces, courts (basketball and volleyball)
  • facility upkeep including identifying and troubleshooting deficiencies in the facility, identifying defective vehicles/equipment, and performing minor facility maintenance on vehicles and equipment
  • sets up and maintains vehicles and sporting equipment for faculty, university and external customer events; projects a professional image in dress and behavior while on duty
  • shovels snow, sweeps garbage, mops floors, marks fields and erects temporary fixtures, cleans locker rooms, paints and performs minor maintenance duties; opens and locks doors for authorized personnel; requests unauthorized personnel to leave premises; escalates as required
  • prepares laundry for washing and operates equipment according to standard operating procedures
  • maintains inventory of supplies and notifies supervisor when supplies are low
  • ensures equipment and materials are moved and stored in an orderly manner; moves furniture and equipment as required
  • performs seasonal locker cleanouts, cuts locks as directed, and stores items removed in the designated area for pick up
  • provides guidance and assistance to casual staff and others as directed
  • other related duties as required
Qualifications
  • Education: Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience: A minimum of three years of related sport facility operator experience; a minimum of one year of experience with an ice resurfacer is required. Experience maintaining sport playing surfaces is considered an asset. Must have considerable front line customer service experience
  • Other: Ability to perform the essential physical functional requirements of the position (lifting and moving heavy equipment up to 25 kg). Excellent communication skills, ability to follow written and oral instructions, diplomacy, tact and conflict management skills; able to deal calmly with upset individuals, exercise good judgment, take initiative, resolve problems, and participate effectively within a team. Understanding of diversity and equity issues. Provincial Class "G" driver’s license required. Must complete a current First Aid, AED and CPR certificate within the probationary period (certifications kept current and updated annually). Completion of the ORFA Ice Maintenance course is a strong asset.
Shift Details

Sunday & Monday: 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. during September to April each year; Saturday & Sunday: 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. during May to August each year.
