What qualifications are we looking for?

At YMCA Calgary we strive to ensure our employees are a fit based on their strengths, interests, and future goals. The successful candidate will have the following:

  • National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) in basketball would be considered an asset.
  • 3-5 years’ experience coaching sport programs to children and youth.
  • Customer service experience.
  • Supervisory experience considered an asset.
  • Ability to manage and adjust to changing environment.
  • Experience working with children and youth.
  • Effectively communicate in a variety of settings; excellent oral and written communication skills, including intermediate use of technology.
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C certificated within the last 12 months from an approved AB OHS provider. Asset if certification is issued by one of the following five Canadian organizations: Canadian Red Cross, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Lifesaving Society, St John's Ambulance and/or Canadian Ski Patrol.
  • Evidence of a cleared police security clearance including a vulnerable sector search.
  • Three professional references required.
What does this role look like at YMCA Calgary?

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Be present at Sport programs to provide support to staff, volunteers, participants and parents.
  • Liaise with Sport Supervisor, coordinate schedules, tournaments and evaluations.
  • Assist in recruiting and training of all volunteer and staff.
  • Effectively communicate in a variety of settings.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure best delivery of customer/client experience.
  • Be available to work flexible hours, including irregular and extended hours, especially evenings and weekends.
  • Administrative duties for Sport ILT, including onboarding, packages, rosters, etc.
  • Attend branch and ILT special events (Healthy Kids Day, Basketball tournaments, All Sport One Day, in-services, Stampede Breakfast, volunteer appreciation, etc).
