Salary: $47,829.00/year - $59,786.00/year

What qualifications are we looking for?

The successful candidate will have the following:

  1. A Bachelor of Education, Physical Education or a related degree or diploma is an asset;
  2. A minimum of two years’ experience working with youth;
  3. Association of Canadian Mountain Guides (ACMG) or Challenges Unlimited (CUI) Level 1;
  4. Experience working with the Canadian Sport for Life Model including Physical Literacy;
  5. Experience with day camps, supervising staff, and program development;
  6. Minimum two years’ experience in coaching and sport program delivery, and one-year supervisory experience;
  7. Excellent customer service attitude;
  8. Availability in the evenings and weekends to meet community and branch needs;
  9. National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) Fundamentals is an asset (basketball, soccer or badminton);
  10. Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certifications;
  11. Evidence of a clear Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Search;
  12. Three professional references.
What does this role look like at YMCA Calgary?

Sport Supervisor will:

  1. Lead the team of staff working for Sports and Day Camps including hiring, training, performance management and active coaching and mentoring of staff and volunteers, including providing feedback on a regular basis;
  2. Ensure high quality of programs and execution of the program design by personal, direct delivery of programs (Basketball, multi-sport, Badminton, Soccer);
  3. Build relationships with parents, participants, volunteers and staff;
  4. Have a high degree of organizational and administrative skill to ensure Association procedures are adhered to as set by YMCA Calgary;
  5. Volunteer recruitment (volunteer fairs, interview, train and performance manage);
  6. Adhere to policies & procedures that support high standards for Health & Safety and Child Safety & Protection;
  7. Provide leadership for summer and seasonal Day Camps including Summer, Winter Break, Teacher’s Convention and Spring Break;
  8. Play an active role by attending regularly scheduled meetings and in-services;
  9. Develop, control and evaluate the Sport budget for your branch, related statistics, and purchase equipment as required;
  10. Ensure all administration systems are in place and are adhered to as set by YMCA Calgary;
  11. Collaborate with the Bookings Team to plan, organize and facilitate group bookings including school groups and birthday parties;
  12. Take initiative to support program cycles for Sport & Day Camps including registration, program cancellations and wait list management;
  13. Provide branch support assuming weekly Duty Manager Shifts and engage Healthy Safety Training and Duty Manager In-Services. Assist with branch duties (including scheduled duty manager shifts, day camps, registration days, etc);
  14. Assist with the annual YMCA campaign by developing relationships with program participants to raise their campaign awareness;
  15. Market and promote programs;
  16. Be responsible for ensuring your staff and volunteers receive department and Association specific training;
  17. Effectively communicate in a variety of settings; excellent oral and written communication skills, including intermediate use of technology;
  18. Ensure excellent quality member service by identifying the needs and wants of participants as priority and respond to their concerns in an effective and timely manner;
  19. Facilitate leadership programs for staff and volunteers;
  20. Attend branch and department special events (Healthy Kids Day, Basketball tournaments, All Sport One Day, in-services, Stampede Breakfast, volunteer appreciation etc).
