THE ROLE

Working closely with the Sponsorship and Accounting teams, the Sponsorship Accountant is responsible for full cycle expense reporting. This includes overseeing payment of all sponsorship expenses, including accurately coding, recording, reconciling, and reporting expenses, ensuring compliance with company policies and sponsor requirements.

WHAT THIS ROLE WILL DO

  • Responsible for the accounts payable cycle for the sponsorship division
  • Code sponsorship payables and collect required approvals
  • Enter sponsorship payables into appropriate accounting systems for payment
  • Track and report ticket usage for sponsors
  • Review and ensure proper coding for internal staff expenses
  • Generate monthly reports on sponsor expenses
  • Prepare monthly expense to budget variance analysis to the project level
  • Communicate individual sponsor expenses to appropriate management teams
  • Report and manage sponsorship accruals with appropriate account managers
  • Update lead sheets and prepare account reconciliations
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Ensure compliance with internal control requirements
  • Assist with other duties, projects and financial reporting as requested by the management team

WHAT THIS PERSON WILL BRING

  • Post secondary education with accounting background
  • Minimum 2 years bookkeeping/accounting role
  • High level attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Excel proficiency (pivot tables, vlookups, mathematical formulas)
  • Proven ability to handle high volume with accuracy, manage multiple concurrent tasks and deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot/problem solve, results-oriented
  • Strong communication skills

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

Sits for extended periods of time at a computer station or work desk; stands and walks throughout the day; occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.; uses hands and fingers to operate computers and office equipment for up to 8 hours each day; lifts up to 10 pounds regularly; exposed to typical office environment conditions and noise levels.
