The Government of British Columbia seeks a Psychiatric Social Worker for their Youth Forensic Psychiatric Services team in Victoria. The role involves providing mental health assessments and treatment services to youth in custody or under supervision, along with coordinating referrals and conducting psycho-social assessments. Applicants should have a Masters in Social Work or equivalent, with at least two years of relevant experience. A valid BC Driver's license is required.
The Team
MCFD’s Youth Forensic Psychiatric Services Victoria Clinic team is a group of experienced professionals, including administrative staff, clinicians, and testing assistants. This established team is part of a larger provincial service and collaborates with social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists, nurses, and contractors to provide direct client care. The Role
Under the direction and supervision of the Clinic Coordinator, Regional Manager or Director of Operations the Psychiatric Social Worker works as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide mental health assessments and treatment services, often court-ordered, to youth who are in custody or under community youth justice supervision due to their involvement with the criminal justice system. The Psychiatric Social Worker is responsible for coordinating referrals for assessment and treatment by completion of a comprehensive psycho-social assessment for court-ordered and court-related referrals. This includes the provision of individual, group and family counselling to young persons and caregivers, liaison with mental health professionals, social service agencies, probation officers, courts, school personnel, hospitals, and other professionals to identify local resources and ensure community ability to respond to the needs of each youth who have offended, as outlined in a discharge plan; and participation in educational seminars and conferences on youth who have offended for staff, community agencies and students in training for child care, social work, nursing, psychology and psychiatry.
