Job description

The Team
The Youth Forensic Psychiatric Services (YFPS) team provides mandated inpatient and outpatient mental health assessment and treatment services to youth involved with the justice system across British Columbia, including those found unfit to stand trial or not criminally responsible due to a mental disorder, through a network of clinics, contracted providers, and an inpatient unit in Burnaby.

The Role
The Psychiatric Social Worker provides Court-ordered and Court-related mental health assessment and treatment services to youth involved with the justice system, including those found unfit to stand trial or not criminally responsible due to a mental disorder. Working in outpatient, inpatient, and custody settings, the role supports youth with complex needs related to mental health, substance use, and offending behavior.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

• Masters in Counselling, Social Work, Educational Counselling, Clinical Counselling, Clinical Psychology or Child and Youth Care or comparable graduate degree at the Master’s level in a similar subject may be considered.
  • NOTE:Successful MSW prepared candidates are required to seek and obtain clinical registration with the British Columbia College of Social Workers (BCCSW).
  • NOTE:If your degree was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
• Minimum of two (2) years of relevant clinical experience working within an adolescent mental health environment and providing a wide range of outpatient-oriented assessment and treatment services.
• Must possess and maintain a valid class 5 BC Driver’s license with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

• MSW Applicants, who have clinical registration with the BC College of Social Workers (BCCSW).
• Applicants who have two (2) or more years’ experience working with adolescents in a forensic or community mental health setting.
• Applicants who have experience providing a range of outpatient-oriented assessment and treatment services.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 1 day at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
