The Team
MCFD’s Specialized Intervention and Youth Justice branch is a dedicated group of experienced clinicians, including full-time and part-time professionals, an outreach support worker, and a supportive team leader. The Role
Reporting to the Clinic Coordinator, the Psychiatric Social Worker assumes responsibility for an individual caseload. Provides consultation to other professionals and agencies. Contributes to program development. Works as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, providing direct care to adolescents with a broad range of forensic/mental health needs.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

• Masters in Social Work preferred; or equivalent education and training (e.g. Masters in Educational Counselling and Masters in Clinical Psychology or comparable graduate degree at the Master’s level).
  • NOTE:If your degree was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
  • NOTE: Successful MSW prepared candidates are required to seek and obtain clinical registration with the British Columbia College of Social Workers (BCCSW), within 6 months of having completed the required 3000 hours of supervised clinical practice.
• Minimum of two (2) years of relevant clinical experience working within an adolescent mental health environment.

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

• MSW Applicants, who have clinical registration with the BC College of Social Workers (BCCSW).
• Applicants who have two (2) or more years’ experience working with adolescents in a forensic or community mental health setting.
• Applicants who have experience providing a range of outpatient-oriented assessment and treatment services.

Willingness/proviso requirements:

• May be required to use own vehicle on an expense account basis.
• May be required to travel in all (reasonable) weather conditions and to remote locations.
• May work with families and children and youth who are distressed and facing challenges which may occasionally involve exposure to unpleasant situations or behaviour with angry, abusive, or abused clients; exposure to hazards from frequently working around parents and/or children in crisis who may display volatile behaviour.
