Position Overview

Under the general supervision of the Director Health Services Indigenous Health the incumbent is responsible for: assessing and responding to the unique spiritual needs of patients clients residents and their families / supports in an open and non-judgmental manner; tending to the cultural / spiritual care needs of an individual and family within a WRHA facility / program. Providing the necessary guidance and resources to facilitate clients on their healing journey in a manner that is sensitive and respectful.

This is a Designated Indigenous Position. This position may be held by someone of Indigenous ancestry who is First Nation Metis Inuit and / or Non-Status. Candidates will be required to undergo screening as required.

Experience
  • Active member of a traditional healing environment with experience in a healthcare setting an asset.
Education (Degree / Diploma / Certificate)
  • A combination of education and experience as recognized by Indigenous Health will be considered.
  • Recognition by the Indigenous community and ability to demonstrate learnings from own healing journey and teachings received. (Letters of support / recommendation from Indigenous community may be requested.)
  • Effectively demonstrate and share indigenous knowledge and approaches.
Certification / Licensure / Registration
  • Good standing within community spiritual tradition.
  • Must have a valid driver license and access to a vehicle.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Must be comfortable working in a highly-structured environment.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to think critically analyze conceptualize and apply relevant knowledge to practice.
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team within an interfaith interspiritual interdisciplinary multicultural setting.
  • The incumbent is required to be:

Physical Requirements
  • Able to work within a large geographic area.
  • Incumbent may be exposed to traumatic events grief and loss and mental health stress.
  • Site placement and / or shifts are subject to change based on operational requirements / needs.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search) Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
