Job Summary:

The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) works closely with adults who have various levels of speech, language, and communication challenges. The role involves assessing clients' needs and developing individualized treatment programs to maximize improvement. Service delivery can be provided virtually and face-to-face.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Manage a caseload of adults with speech, language, and communication challenges.
2. Assess, diagnose, and treat swallowing and communication difficulties from various causes, such as congenital issues (e.g., cleft palate) or acquired disorders (e.g., post-stroke or injury).
3. Develop, implement, and revise treatment programs supporting positive health outcomes.
4. Advise caregivers on treatment implementation and train other professionals in therapy delivery.
5. Assess clients' communication environments.
6. Monitor and evaluate clients' progress against planned outcomes.
7. Deliver therapy in one-to-one or group settings.
8. Maintain confidential case notes and reports, including information for clients, caregivers, and professionals.
9. Manage caseload considering priority cases, waiting lists, outcomes, referrals, and discharges.
10. Collaborate with team members to improve service delivery effectiveness.

External and Internal Relationships:

• Work within a multidisciplinary team alongside health professionals such as doctors, nurses, psychologists, physiotherapists, and occupational therapists.
• Coordinate with education and social services professionals.

Education, Designations, and Experience:

• Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology or equivalent (grandfathered prior to 1994).
• Registered with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario.
• Canadian Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists certification is preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar role.

Skill Requirements:

• Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and speech-language software.
• Ability to use technology effectively for documenting patient outcomes.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Adaptability to different social and economic environments.
• Flexibility to respond to changing caseloads and care needs.

Other Requirements:

• Must have a personal vehicle, valid driver’s license, and proof of vehicle insurance.
• Current satisfactory Criminal Records Check.
• Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

This role requires attention to detail in a dynamic environment, with physical activities including lifting, carrying (using proper techniques), bending, reaching, kneeling, and other movements emphasizing good body mechanics. Tasks may involve walking, sitting, standing, climbing stairs, and fine hand movements throughout the day.
