The salary range for this position is CAD $42.27/Hr. - CAD $52.81/Hr.
Providence Health Care's Speech Language Pathology department is now hiring for a temporary full-time Tuesday to Saturday line, with Monday, Sunday, and stats off, based primarily out of St. Paul's Hospital. This position will be until June 26th 2026 or the return of the incumbent.
Our SLPs are key members of our Allied Health team, working closely with other Allied disciplines like Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy as well as other members of our care teams to tackle the rewarding variety of treatment needs of the patient populations we serve. Your duties will include
- Assessment & Intervention Provide direct, individualized assessment and therapy for adults with communication and/or swallowing disorders in acute and long-term care settings, using appropriate clinical tools and evidence-informed practices.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration & Communication Work closely with care teams, patients, and families to develop treatment goals and care plans. Share findings and recommendations through verbal and written communication, and participate in rounds, conferences, and referrals.
- Education, Supervision & Mentorship Educate patients, families, and staff about communication/swallowing issues. Support student learning through clinical supervision and assist with in-service education and interdisciplinary knowledge sharing.
- Documentation, Quality Improvement & Professional Growth Maintain accurate clinical documentation and treatment stats. Engage in ongoing learning, contribute to quality improvement initiatives, and support research and department development projects.
Education
- Current full registration as a Speech Language Pathologist with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC (CHCPBC).

Your Day to Day
- Provides direct intervention for inpatients/outpatients/residents with communication and/or swallowing problems.
- Uses appropriate assessment instruments to determine diagnosis and candidacy for therapy; develops an appropriate individualized therapy program.
- Maintains effective communication with all staff. Works collaboratively with the team, the patient and family in identifying treatment goals. Liaises with treatment team regarding patient management through verbal and written reports, i.e. rounds, conferences. Makes appropriate recommendations/referrals and arranges for follow-up as needed. Communicates effectively with colleagues within the department to ensure quality patient care.
- Educates patients, families and/or staff about communication and swallowing deficits and provides suggestions and education regarding the ongoing management of the deficit areas.
- Maintains an organized work environment including shared work spaces, materials and patient records. Schedules patient/family treatment sessions according to caseload guidelines.
- Reports and discusses issues or problems relating to patient care with Professional Practice Leader. Keeps Professional Practice Leader informed of patient load, waitlists, and referral sources. Assists Professional Practice Leader in identifying service gaps/opportunities for improving service delivery.
- Responds to internal and external inquiries regarding the service with input from other staff as needed.
- Completes assessment reports and maintains up-to-date progress reports, relevant correspondence, records, daily treatment statistics, etc., following established procedures.
- Maintains current knowledge base through interaction with other members of the Communication Disorders department and colleagues in other facilities. Regularly participates in authorized educational activities on topics relevant to practice. Assists the Professional Practice Leader in identifying, developing and implementing quality improvement initiatives.
- Maintains knowledge of relevant community resources.
- Develops, implements and evaluates in-service education and education programs for patients and families independently or in collaboration with other staff.
- Assists the Professional Practice Leader in coordinating the student fieldwork experience program. Provides clinical supervision and opportunities for student observations as required.
- Represents Communication Disorders on interdisciplinary committees as directed by the Professional Practice Leader. Assists the Professional Practice Leader in identifying site initiatives that require Speech-Language Pathologist input.
- Independently or in collaboration with others identifies research opportunities and develops research projects through methods such as drafting proposals and collecting data. Integrates the application of research findings into practice.
- Maintains department equipment/materials/supplies and provides input to the Professional Practice Leader regarding equipment, supply and space needs.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
