Your Opportunity:

The Professional Practice Lead (PPL) advances professional practice for the discipline to support excellence in patient and family-centred health care. This position aligns planning, policy development, service delivery, and evaluation for the Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH) Speech Language Pathology (SLP) teams/staff. The PPL serves as a key resource for staff, programs, and site/local leadership regarding evidence-based practices, professional standards, ethics, and legislative requirements. The PPL fosters networks and coalitions to achieve goals and priorities in professional practice. This role leads quality improvement initiatives, program development, evaluation, and knowledge translation based on patient, population, site, and program needs. The PPL provides Speech Language Pathology expertise to managers and directors to address their needs (scope of practice, emerging trends, staff mix, service models, outcomes, and targets). The position involves practice-informed decision-making to support the achievement of site, Speech Therapy, and Allied health goals. Additionally, the PPL provides advanced clinical services, complex consultation, and case management within their area of expertise. Supervision and mentorship, including preceptoring students and evaluating clinical services, are also key responsibilities.

As a Speech Language Pathologist III, you will work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team, serving as an integral leader among healthcare professionals (Speech Language Pathologists, Assistants). You will facilitate the development and monitoring of clinical standards of practice for speech-language pathology and patient care protocols within the department and geographical area. In collaboration with management, you will support the development, implementation, and evaluation of the department's operational strategies.

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the Alberta College of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (ACSLPA).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum of 5 years experience as a Speech Language Pathologist in a large urban acute care hospital working with diverse patient populations. Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology or equivalent. Active registration with the Alberta College of Speech-Language Pathology Association; professional membership with the Canadian Speech-Language Pathology Association. Over 2 years experience performing instrumental swallowing and bedside dysphagia assessments. Evidence of demonstrated leadership in strategic planning, change management, and evaluation. Proven pattern of professional and personal development. Knowledge of best practices, governance, legislation, ethics, and current trends in Speech Language Pathology. Ability to lead teams, build partnerships, and foster effective relationships.
