Job description

Salary range: The salary range for this position is CAD $42.27 - $52.81 / hour.

We are currently looking to fill a Relief Full-Time position for a Speech Language Pathologist at Burnaby Hospital in Burnaby, B.C.. This position is available until October 2025.

The Burnaby Hospital redevelopment project is a multi-phase initiative to modernize the hospital into a comprehensive medical and surgical health care campus. Phase one is scheduled to open in spring 2025, with phase two in 2030.

  • New health care pavilion with 83 beds for maternity, neonatal intensive care, medicine, and mental health

Burnaby Hospital provides vital health services including emergency medicine, critical care, medical imaging, internal medicine, neurology, gastroenterology, palliative care, psychiatry, oncology, outpatient services, and various surgical specialties.

Position Overview:

Provides speech language pathology services in accordance with BC standards, Fraser Health mission, and interprofessional collaboration. Responsibilities include assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, intervention, patient education, and participation in research and quality activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessments of communication and swallowing functions
  • Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans
  • Educate patients and caregivers
  • Participate in care planning and team collaboration
  • Evaluate and document intervention outcomes
  • Facilitate referrals and coordinate care
  • Engage with families and establish therapeutic relationships
  • Maintain records and documentation
  • Delegate tasks to assistants and provide mentorship
  • Participate in team activities and research projects

Qualifications:

Education and Experience: Current registration with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC, including applicable certifications.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of speech language pathology theory and practice
  • Understanding of BC standards and guidelines
  • Experience with communication and dysphagia assessments
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Research knowledge and equipment operation skills
  • Physical ability to perform duties
