The Position

We are seeking a Speech Language Pathologist for the Brain Injury Rehab Team (BIRT), joining a dedicated and collaborative interdisciplinary team that serves clients aged 3 months to 17 years who require rehabilitation following an acquired brain injury. Learn more about BIRT here. This is a temporary full-time (1.0 FTE) position.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Provides consultation (including prevention), evaluation, assessment, intervention, and counselling to clients and families around communication.
  2. Works in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team to inform integrated care plans.
  3. Uses appropriate standardized tests and outcome measures in clinical practice.
  4. Uses non-standard assessment tools/forms when appropriate.
  5. Makes appropriate referrals to other services, agencies, etc.
  6. Incorporates goal setting in discussion with family/client.
  7. Adapts approach to changing needs of clients and families.
  8. Keeps family/client informed of progress and of any changes in plan.
  9. Adheres to Centre/professional charting guidelines.
  10. Demonstrates familiarity with current literature, issues, and trends of practice.
  11. Participates in regular quality improvement activities to further refine clinical practice, equitable, and efficient service for clients and families.
  12. Shares new knowledge and best practices with colleagues, students, and other professionals within the organization, professional body, and community.
  13. Participates in quality improvement activities to ensure the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment.
  14. Utilizes the teaching/learning process to provide education, both formal and informal, to clients/families, colleagues, students, and other professionals within the organization and the community.
  15. Participates in quality improvement initiatives, supports the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment, and advances a culture of client/patient safety through work and daily practices.
  16. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  1. Masters degree in Speech Language Pathology.
  2. Current registration with the College of Audiologists and Speech Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO).
  3. Previous pediatric clinical related experience preferred.
  4. Experience with providing assessment, consultation, and therapy for pediatric Spina Bifida, neuromuscular disorders, and/or inpatient rehab preferred.
  5. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clients, families, and members of the interdisciplinary care team.
  6. Demonstrates flexibility and cooperation in dealing with change.
  7. Demonstrated ability to work independently and in an interdisciplinary team.
